I'm starting to gather parts to convert the old MM system over to carb. Can someone explain the differences in the first 5 numbers? I know the last 2 are for the year+. I have a 2000 Road King and need to find a carb. Can I use a newer year carb? Older? Does it matter?

You're beginning a large job, incase you didn't already know. The ECM or igintion wiring is different ect. But if you are dead set on the conversion. I would use the S&S super G manifold with the Vulcan adapter and a Sreamin Eagle 51mm cv carb. The smaller 40mm cv will be under cutting the performance upgrades you've already done. Just my opinion

it don't really matter, the newer the better.
a 50mm carb is too big for a 95" motor, unless all you do is drag race.

You're right about one thing for sure, the newer the better. You don't want an older carb, ie 93 and older there were some problems with the pin towers for the float. However I have used the 51mm carb on many 95" twin cam motors with great success. We did alot of Dyno and street testing on that carb when I worked at Milwuakee HD. There are a few other bore sizes also availible if someone wants.
wow 51mm carb on a mild build 95". No way would I try and run a 51 cv with andrews 26's and 95 flat tops. cv40 is good for 100/100 or so. cv44 at the biggest on this build or a mik 42.
