Hello guys, i just wanted to know if i was just lied to my face and how much the 1k service for a sportster is. Not too long ago we took my dads softail for the first 1k service and it came out to be like $180 w/tax and all. I could be wrong but my memory has served me right in the past years but i was just quoted $240 plus tax for the 1k service on my Sportster, and the guy looked up my fathers service order and told me that his order was around $280 dollars. I will try and get the receipt for my fathers service and see if i dreamt the 180 dollar service or of this guy was trying to have a good laugh. Thanks for your replies in advance.

So i rolled into the gas station this morning to fill up, so i walk in to pay to fill up in pump #1 and pull out a hand full of quarters, dimes and nickles that i've had in my truck. The attendant looks at me and i tell him its cool its to full up my harley (an Iron), he then turns to the pump and smiles at the idea of change and starts counting the change.

So am i the only one or i am sure there has to be others, is it me or does this feel like free gas...Anyone done pennies too

York Factory Visit

Made a trip down to York today to take the factory tour. Unfortunately they weren't running...

Made a trip down to York today to take the factory tour. Unfortunately they weren't running production due to the slow economy. Our guide informed us that this was one of several shutdown weeks the factory had scheduled.

I'd recommend that if you have the chance, stop by. I wanted to make a visit before the MOCO makes it's decision on the future of the operation. We've been experiencing above average temps in PA, so I took advantage and made the trip today.

The tour was informative and well worth the 2 hour trip. At it's conclusion, I asked if there were any updates about the factory closing and the guide said that he hadn't heard anything. He's retired and conducting tours because he loves it. But there are 3 full shifts of workers that would be affected by a closing. He also stated the obvious - the area would be devastated by the closure of the facility. He did mention that HD had recently invested in new equipment and was hopeful that the investment might mean the plant would stay. Of course that doesn't mean that they aren't just updating the factory for future sale, but he remains hopeful.

On a side note, this is my first extended highway trip on the Sporty and she performed well. The factory is about 125 miles each way and I was easily able to maintain a 75 mph speed. I used one of SportyPig's tricks and used the rear pegs for a change of position. It worked well and I wasn't really sore after 4 hours of riding. I'm sure the Mustang seat helped as well!!

I know I been posten pics like crazy, but gotta catch up.

Anyway I got a 1976 XLH 1000 for $1000 from a friends son-in-law, he bought the bike from someone a few years back not running, and was told the trans is no good.

So anyway I brought it home, the next day I changed the plugs, pulled and cleaned the carb, (its got S&S super E practically new) changed the oil, charged the batt and she fired right up, smokes like a bitch but runs perfect. The clutch cable was stripped going into the primary cover, so I made a bushing, got it working and the trans seems fine. She also got a brand new cycle electric generator. I recently got a new 2.2 tank and fender, the crappy Mustang tank is a gonner.
Couple pics
