Default DIY exhaust

I'm in the process of turning my 2012 FLHTC into a Frankenstein Trike. There is an exhaust system they sell with the kit but I'm not liking it so much. I think I'm going to use a stock head pipe do some cutting right before the two pipes come out of the collector and run a large pipe or maybe two side by side.

Problems is the axle is right in line with the exhaust so I have to under which won't leave much room on the other side to have any muffler. Maybe just baffles.

Anyone out there build their own exhaust? Or have any experience with the Frankenstein trike?

Another question. Anyone know what size the pipe should be on the 1 side of a 2 into 1 home made pipe?

We have a separate trike section, where you may find fellow trike owners who can answer your question. Designing an exhaust is a challenging thing, which is why some of them cost so much! From the 2-into-1s I've seen there is no straight answer to your question. The two individual pipes are normally around 1 3/4" inch, with the collector being around twice that.

Here is where I'm at for now. I found a fat 2.5" fiberglass wrap 8.5" baffle I'll start with. The pipe needs to drop under the axle and get out back. It's all just fun testing and hoping for the best.

keep it going bud, i built my own exhaust on my 2002 wide glide. Found heat shields for them. I had a lot of fun fabbing up them, and i can say i actually built them. Well king of. Used other pipes and made one good set.
