Default Joining the Ultima crowd

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I stripped the timing plug threads in my 80" Evo. Been wanting a bigger motor for a while. Talked the wife into letting me get an Ultima. Ordered a 113 today and I'll pick it up tomorrow. Gonna fix the 80 and hope to build another bike.

Can I get away with adding a heavy duty spring and a extra plate kit to the clutch?

I'm presently running a Ultima six speed. Stock primary gearing and a chain drive with a 23 on the trans and a 51 on the wheel. I ran a 24 on the trans for awhile with the 80 but it was lugging the motor in overdrive. Any suggestions on gearing?

I'm sure I'll have more questions and any input is appreciated.

Bill

Welcome aboard. We usually drop one tooth on the tranny sprocket with a 110"+ motor and an overdrive 6 speed. You might get away with that clutch setup depending how you drive. Are you going to Peevly to pick it up?? You should have gotten the 120 as the price should have been the same. The only thing that beats cubic inches is cubic money!!!!

Picking it up at Jireh. I live about 15 miles away. I liked the longer warranty. Was thinking about the 107 but once I called the bigger is better bug hit. Thought the 113 might get better mileage. The other thing was the pressed crank in the 120. I ride like an old man most of the time and do alot of two up.

I think you will like the Ultima 113, most of the Ultima owners on these forums are pretty happy with our choices.

I have about 7000 miles on our 113 using the stronger clutch spring and an Energy One extra disk clutch pack. The clutch feels differently with the 9 plate kit but after a while you get used to it. I don't race or beat the bike, but do occasionally run it to the rev limiter. We have the stock 5 speed which provides more than enough top end speed for this fat old man that rides 2 up all the time.

The Energy One extra plate + stronger spring kit for the 1990-97 Big-Twin is about $106.00

on edit:

I know it's crazy, but at times I even think about buying the new 124 bagger engine even though the Ultima 113 does everything I need. I also think of increasing the output of the 113 but know there is a limit I can go before I will need to worry about the rest of the bike taking the stress.

Don't want to hijack or sidetrack...
Ultima's come in a lot of displacements.
What are the recommendations for the different bikes? IE Is the 107 or 113 a bagger specific motor?
What would work better in a Dyna or my WG?

My original plan was to buy an EVO bike and drop in a bigger motor.
right now the EVO with cams and heads is running great,
but when we're 2-up I keep thinking 100+ would be nice.

And there are a lot of baggers out there for sale for cheap...thinking that someone could pick one up and stick a 120 in it and really have a ride...

This winter should be interesting.

I used the calculators on Nightrider and I'm going to switch to a 22 on the tranny that I have. That will give me a 3.57 overall drive ratio with a 3.07 in od. I'm also getting a heavy duty spring and carbon fiber extra plate kit from Jireh.

What do you guys think about the ignition that comes with the 113? I have a Crane Hi-4E on the bike already. The type that mounts under the seat. Is the stock ignition reliable?

Oh yeah, the bikes a 93 Fatboy with Summax hard bags and a windshield.

schwangster

I have seen the ultima 124 listed as a "bagger" and I don't remember the details but it has lower compression for less chance of detonation, a cam for more low end torque (they claim over 100' lbs torque at 2000 rpms), and a quieter top end. Last fall when I ordered our 113 the salesperson at Jireh said the 100 CI was the most reliable but the 113 was the most popular engine they sold, and the 120 and above needed an oil cooler. It's tough making a choice, as they all are good. I never had the 80" on a dyno after the top end performance work was done. It had the usual head work with bigger valves, stronger springs etc.etc, 10 to 1 pistons, ev27, single fire ignition etc. and it did perform much better than stock, but not nearly as good as the Ultima 113 does. You really can feel the difference.

Thanks,
I know a bagger 'needs' more low end than a Dyna.
When I looked at the 100" numbers it seems like a big step up.
As I understand all of them are the same price at Jireh?
