Default RE: Recall on 07 Harley-Davidsons

I believe what they are meaning when they say 103 download is the the ECM reflash used if you install the 103 kit on the 96er. Yes they are dealers who are using this reflash. I understand that on the 103 kits the download is still EPA compliant, that the 103's still run lean with this download, but use the download on a 96er it just might add enough fuel to eleviate some of the lean condition. After talking to some of the tuners the adding of 10 percent more fuel on the 96ers may not be to much off the mark. These bikes are right on the line when it comes to engine damage from lean conditions. Even some dealers have told me they are not looking forward to the heat of next summer when their customers really begin to ride bikes that are stock. They seem worry about having to deal with the consequences.

The Parade map is not the Heat Management Map. The Parade map is distributed to dealers who service vehicles used by Law Enforcement Agencies. The Map fattens (enriches) the bottom end of the bike (when it is in closed loop mode). They provide this to LE bikes knowing they are used in stop and go traffic, parades, and such. Usually you will have to find a dealer who does service LE bikes. Carolina Harley Davidson in Gastonia NC is one such dealer. Eric the service manager has been installing this map with pretty good results. Not a total solution but at least Eric is willing to help the customer. This may be the map Harley is going to install in this so call recall to try and help the problem with the heat.

Since a Harley does not have a Mass Air Flow sensor, the EFI has to calculate air entering motor and cubic inches plays a big role in that fomula. There are no stock 103 downloads and it highly unlikely a 103 Stage I would even work as motor would be recieving at least 10% more fuel which would be excessivly rich.

A "103 download" sounds cool...could be something the dealer said to please a customer.
Yes there are "103" downloads.

STOCK 103 down loads? I believe they are all 103 stage I or 103 stage II. I thought Harley only has 96 and 110 displacements for 07 TC.

A stage 103 Stage I download would assume a SE A/C and SE exhaust adding even more fuel...just thinking out loud. Has anyone actually tried loading a 103 map into a bone stock 07?

Wanted to update the recall..first I had problems with my new FLHRHC from the get go. First let me get you some links on this issue and is a good one. I also want to say so far of all the people who bought before two weeks ago..their bikes are on this list..all models.

http://www.coolclimbing.com/2007harl...kingclassi.htm
This site has ALOT of details and it hits home.

As to the heat problems their are more than a few but this one thats on my bike looks great and I cannot feel the heat now at all. I was burning my..well you know..Here is another site to help with that problem and if you get it off ebay and or just call them its 100.00 even.
shamrockride.net
check out the black one..these were designed for cop bikes but they are popping up all over the country as per the group I ride with. I'm sure their will be more help from you great wrenches out there on helping us riders.

First be CAREFUL of dealers promises as we all know. I did business with one in Lebenon, Mo and boy did they get me. I took them at THEIR word and you probably have been there and done it also. I bought the Harley Race tuner, the Stage one Breather Kit and here's the Mistake..I bought a brand new set of 05 SE slip-on Muffflers(off-road) and I put them on because they said they couldn't. I also called another dealer and ask him the same questions about my warranty.. both said no problems. Will now with the Program 0903 I'm out. I have the heat problem under me fixed but still have problems with it sometimes pinging but the bike DOES run hot still. In the range of 235-40 in 80 degrees(thats at the oil temp only per the new LED w/oil lever checker dipstick)..Whats it going to be like in 100? I found out if you take out the cross over pipe to the left side and use others pipes that helps. The real problem is when you buy something..you shouldn't have to put alot of money in it just to ride it. I know have over 1500.00 in it and will before summer do what my friend did on his Ultra Classic before it left the shop this week and put on a Vanes and hines pipes on left and right and do away with the crossover pipe under the seat. I bet we have more to come from the boys in Wis on these 07's! Good Luck and read everything you can before you buy and only the dynas and sporters seem to be better at the moment..
Hope these sites help.

Although the Service Bulletin wasn't issued until Nov 20, the Download was sent to the dealer network on 10/23, a full month earlier. This info is on the second page of the Service Bulletin in Table 1. It states that ECM Cals done after 10/23 do not need to be upgraded. Perhaps my dealer was right.
For reference you can see a pdf of the Service Bulletin here:

I still wonder exactly what this ECM calibration is doing... all the new models rolling off the assembly line (after early Nov) have this ECM update already installed, so it must be something serious.

Am I missing something, but I dont see all Softails in the chart in the Svc Builiten page 2-3. I have a 2007 Fat Boy FLSTF. but it came up on the harley site when i entered my VIN.

I am guessing that the timing has been increased in lwr rpm ranges and possibly the closed loop #s in that range.

The second line in Table 1: Dyna/Softail OEM Domestic, probably covers your Fatboy, my Custom, and all U.S Dyna and Softail models.

Default RE: Recall on 07 Harley-Davidsons

I hope this helps with some answers on the recall. I have a 07 FLSTC. Today I carried mine into the H-D dealer and explain to the service person why I was there, which was for the Service Bullentin ECM calibration upgrade. Well a service tec came right out and said he knew about the new upgrade to my ECM and said if I would like to wait on my bike he could do this program in about 5 minutes. Sure enought within about 10 minutes he came back with my bike and said this was only the second 07 that he has done with this new up grade and showed me the numbers before and after his upgrade. The service tec said he had down loaded a stage 1 performance calibration and it should really help the running of my bike. Well sure enough it was like adding 20 more H.P to my bike. It will now really move like a 96c should. I did notice much increase in power and the engine did run little cooler. The added power is mostly low end and it really helps the engine from wanting to lug in your lower gears. Yes I can still hear the same rattle sounds in the front of the engine, but it's now much smoother running and does not lug near as much as it did. I say this was a much needed upgrade it really wakes up your 96c engine.
I do have a question if someone might be able to anwer for me? If the H.D upgraded my bike to the stage 1 ECM can I now install my stage 1 big sucker filter without causing any problems.
Later on if I install true duel exhaust and a power commander pc111 would that affect the new down load or do I would I need to add a power commander now with this new up grade?

I really think that some of you guys are hilarious.....

Who of you were around for the 99/00 ECM upgrade, going to the "B" flash????

What about the 04-05 XL ICM Updates (There have been 3, yes 3 of them)?????

You guys are acting like you are the only ones that have ever had this happen.......

HD goes through this all the time...

There are ALWAYS going to be product refinements, updates to firmware/software, updates to applications......

This is nothing new, and you should take it in stride......

Whenever your bike goes in to an HD shop, they are obligated to verify and validate any and all RECALLS, MODIFICATIONS or CAMPAIGNS that are open or awaiting approval on your particular bike....., whether it be an ECM/ICM Update, Stereo update, fender lamp harness, BAS relocation or any number of things that have been ID'd....

Now, you wanna know something really funny.... all of the PC III's that were installed will need to come off, so the ECM can be updated with the proper flash, or it can't be installed... Inherent flaw with the PC III.... Prevents System Information from being processed, but engine data gets through.... Hmmmmmm?????

THEN, you are going to have to retune your PC's as the Baseline ECM programming has been changed, and your settings are going to be off kilter for the PC to modify.....

Take my advice, get your bike to the nearest shop that you trust, get your ECM's updated and stop the madness.....
