A week after getting my bike home I was riding close to home and the check engine light came on. I was able to get it home and the next morning I tried to crank it and it would barely turn over and crank. I called the dealer on Monday and by Thursday when they picked it up it would not crank at all and the engine light was still on. When they took it in and checked it they had to replace the Engine Temp. sensor. 2700 miles later all is well.
If you had to turn it off to restart it, that is a key thing. It could very well be a TSM/TSSM thinking the bike tipped. It will be interesting to see what the dealer finds.
Had a similar problem with my 01 softail. Going down the road bike would die, lights and everything. Then it would start \\;running again on its own. \\; Sometimes it would die and nothing worked for hours, then I would try again and it would run. I finally got rid of the HD battery and got one with better connections. I hate HD batteries and that soft lead you just screw into. Have not had the problem since. My negative connection was ever so slightly loose and seems to have been the problem. So check your battery connections and if the screw seems to be stripped out in the slightest.....replace the battery. \\; Let me know if it helps.
2002 Electraglide. \\; Long story short. \\; Went into an S turn too hot avoided gravel and smacked a pot hole hard with the rear tire riding two up. \\; The bike stalled as I got control. \\; Didn't think anything of it. \\; 2 hours down the road just putting through a town, complete electrical shut down. \\; Waited 2 minutes and the \\;circuit breaker reset and I was on my way home for 3 hours. \\; No problem. \\; The same thing has happened 3 times now under different riding durations. \\; Twice riding two up after a short 30 min jaunt and once riding solo after about 30 min. \\; Between those times its been close to two weeks of commuting to work every day without incident. \\; Any ideas before I have a semi up my butt some day?
