Default 01 fatboy intermittent miss firer and rough running

I have a 01 fatboy fuel injected bought it new has 18,000 miles on it and up until a week ago has never missed a beat. recently it started running rough but not all the time, at first thought maybe i had some bad gas it would not idle right and would miss and back fire thought air cleaner. stopped for gas and dumped a bit of injector cleaner in the tank and all of a sudden it was once again running strong until the next day back to the rough running. mechanic working on the bike now for two weeks says this is hard to figure it's not throwing any codes, plugs were changed wire were replaced but still running badly, he's ordered a coil however it not arrived yet and I think it's just an educated guess, he has about 10 hours into it an not yet is sure what's wrong. Any help would be great!
Thanks, Suggs

I learned the hard way its better to just take it to a dealer and let them scan it,,, than you can get on w/ your life!

What costed me about $450.00 and 6 weeks of my time coulda costed $250 and 24 hrs. Was a Engine Temp Sensor on my 01 EFI.

Hi, I'd be surprised if it was your coil. It is possible that one of the EFI sensors (crank, engine temp, map) is damaged or not functioning properly and is not so bad that it is throwing a code. I think it could be your fuel filter - the injector cleaner could have loosened up some deposits there and helped it run better when then reformed overnight. I think the service life for that filter is 50k miles, but it could be plugged from excessive debris, or repeated bad gas. Hope that helps! I'd be curious to see what your mechanic has come up with.

Did the bike run better after plugs were replaced, but then started run bad again?
It may be some problem of rich mixture that fouls up the plugs, or again a dirty gas filter, especially if the bike got old fuel in its tank for some time.

turns out the coil did not resolve, the shop that was doing the work after 6+ hours has now started to thow parts at it I've now paid this guy $400 in labor and $100 for a coil that I didn't need. He no longer has the bike I got it back and have now taken it to an HD dealer, they tell me I'll only pay for the repair (parts and the time to install not debug time) they think they can knock out the debug in an hour or less. I'm thinking I should have taken it there to begin but thought I'd give the small guy a shot. Will post what the final result turns out to be.
Thanks for the feedback.

I have a 97 flhtci and it sounds like mine is doing the same thing I put new plugs and wires on it they did not help I took the air filter off and squirted gas into throttle body and it ran good for a minute so it is definetly starving for fuel anyone know of any common problems that may cause this Thanks Captain Kirk
