I did it on sportster.
Got headlight rellocation bracket from DK Customs - it's only $50, but gives you great choice of headlight positions. First I mounted using front turn signals, and it actually didn't look good. Second attempt I tried to use standard mounts that cam with fairing but slightly modified - I really liked result and got lots of compliments on it

Used the DK Customs headlight bracket, and is slightly recessed. Than replaced headlight ring with Deeper one, that flushed the ring with the fairing.
