Default 02-05 wideglide rear fender question

I'm entertaining the idea of a wideglide rear fender on my bike. They used to make a kit but it is not available for the 05 and older anymore. My question is in regards to the strut covers. I would like to know if the strut covers are extended from the back of the strut. Basically, your strut covers are longer than mine. Is the additional length in the frame strut, or do the covers make up the length ?

I think the covers are longer so that the plate mount has something sturdy to bolt up to

The strut covers are acutally longer just a little more than an inch, the reason is for the stock taillight bracket to mount on, the very last hole of the struct cover is what hold the taillight bracker and that is all that it does.hope this helps

Here is a stock wide glide rear fender with struts, you can see the difference in the strut cover

i dont understand the question? do you want to know if wg struts (not covers) are longer than sg struts?
the kit includes strut covers, rear light and license mount?
one sold on ebay for $80 last year - i effed that one up.

anyway - i have sg fender and wg fender - 05.
if you want me to measure something - ok - let me know.
the piece im missing is the actual wg strut - i dont have one of those.

The strut is the same size on a WG as a SG, it is the chrome cover that is longer,

Ok so this means i can buy stock wideglide strut covers and fender(any other parts too) and mount it to my FXDC. This is what I wanted to know as the conversion kit is no longer available for our older bikes. Looking at the picture from my service manual it looks like the struts as well as covers are longer.
