Default After PCIII Install - Security Key Indicator Remains On

I just wrapped up the install of a SE State1 Air Filter Kit, Power Commander III and V&H Big Shots Stg'd on my '06 Street Bob. Upon re-installing the maxi-fuse, everything appears to be okay (e.g. everything powers up), but...

After a few second, the Security Key Indicator on the display (little red key) remains on and never goes off. Nor do you hear the fuel pump prime when turning the switch to Run as you normally do. The hi/low beams work okay as does the horn, but the turn signals don't (nor hazards) and of course you can't turn over the motor.

You can arm/disarm the alarm just fine w/ the key-fob, but after turning ignition back on, the indicator lights back up after a few seconds and remains lit.

Any ideas? I followed the manual on how to reset the security code and it didn't respond (e.g. flash back, etc.). The manual states that the solid indicator represents an error condition of some sorts, but gives no steps to resolve.

Doesn't seem like an install issue to me, but instead I'm locked out by the @#@#$@@# security system??

I'm saying this with caution, because I don't want you to think that I think you're dumb, so please forgive me , but your engine kill switch isn't off is it ?

don't worry about calling me dumb, for obviously I am per my issues above but to answer your question, yes the switch is set to run. it seems like the sec. system has the fuel sys. shutdown or locked-out, for you can't hear the fuel pump prime after turning the key on and setting kill switch to run.

Your TSSM has generated a "Failure To Communicate" DTC when you installed the PC and removed the Maxi-Fuse, all communication between the TSSM/ECM/Speedo was lost......

It is now a historic code and will clear itself out at about 50 Start - Run cycles....

Or, invest in the SERT and have the ability to go in and do your own DTC validation/Repair and clearing... Oh yeah, PC can't do that, as it is a Modem management system....

Maybe you could get ahold of someone that has a TwinScan... you can clear it out that way....

Investing in the proper manuals is always a good thing... Service AND Electrical.....

Lastly, take it to a REPUTABLE dealer and have them clear it......

I don't know if this will help but try this to see what the error code is. It also tells you how to clear it. I usede this process recently to diagnose a loose wire to my regulator on my Bob. There is also a thread with the meaning of the codes somewhere I will try to find it for you.

Copied from a recent post:

01- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

02- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

03- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button.
Background lighting should illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range
and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate.
The word “diag” should then appear.

04 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu

"PSSPT" with the first P flashing.

05 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module.
The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check.
To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time.

(from P to S to SP to T and back to P, etc.)

P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

06 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release.
If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s.
Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

07 - Record the codes.

08 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button.
Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and
holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up.
Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9.
If the code is current it will reappear.

09 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

Default RE: After PCIII Install - Security Key Indicator Remains On

When I installed my PCIII it just stated to make sure the bike was turned off. Why did you pull the main fuse?

mvlow, thanks for the detailed info. this certainly helps me understand the error better.

I was able to uncover one error code as follows:

P: no rsp (didn't have 9v hooked to PCIII, so makes sense)
S: none
SP: U1064
t: no rsp (no tach on street bob, so makes sense)

Based upon your list, the U1064 code means:
U1064 Loss of TSM/TSSM Serial Data Carb (n/a for bob is EFI)
U1064 Loss of TSM/TSSM Serial Data EFI
U1064 Loss of TSM/TSSM Serial Data Instruments

I attempted to clear, but upon powering down and coming back into the menu, the error re-appears. Looks like I'm going to have to take it into the dealer.

MRM,

Check your 15 amp fuses. I bet you blew the 15 amp Ignition fuse. Ask me how I know. I installed chrome controls, switch housing and caps yesterday and I had the exact symptom. I pinched a wire. Turn iginition to on, after a few seconds the red key ligts up and stays on. Switch to "Run" and nothing happens. If it is your fuse, when you turn the Ignition on, the red key comes on first and then goes out.

Good luck.
