The Softail Standard (FXST) isn't a bad bike ... I believe it has a 'silver' PC engine/trans ...

The Low Rider (FXDL) is a great choice for the model years you're looking at ... it comes stock with mid-controls ... a lot of guys like that and at least an equal number or more hate 'em ... but, there's no option for mid controls on the Softails ...

The Low Rider has a black engine and a good looking stock paint combo (like the red/orange color with black panel) ... and a fair amount of chome ... a very good looking bike ...

I think I speak for most everyone in encouraging you to pull the trigger and join the Harley rider brotherhood ...

and don't worry ... when you announce in 36 - 48 months that you are moving over to the 'Touring' section as you traded your Dyna in for a Street Glide ... we won't roast your chestnuts too bad ...

Good luck finding the bike you're looking for ...

An earlier posting on this thread said "I would avoid 05 models as I hear they have valve seal problems". I see that you have an '05. Do you know if this is a widepread or isolated problem with some '05 models.

As for roasting my chestnuts in a few years when/if I move to a tourer, the are brittle already from other roastings, that one more roast will not matter.

My bike has been totally trouble-free ... EFI works great ...

Got 19,913 miles as of this morning and runs like a champ ... no valve seal problems or inner primary bearing failure, or anything ...

You'll be happy with any Dyna model. Choose the one that fits you best and go with it. You'll probably get the best deal on a Street Bob but you won't go wrong with any of them. Try them all out.
