I'm with TLB as far as the Deuce goes. They look OK, but are a bastard bike. There is Very limited aftermarket for that model and little to No parts interchangeability between it and other models. That alone would be a deal breaker for me.

here is one on ebay going for 8999.00

Looks like a great deal to me.

Cheers,

You've gotten lots of good advice here. I can only speak to what I know. I have a 2009 FXDC, and I enjoy it very much. I have about 3,500 miles on it. I think it's great for around town, weekends, and longer trips. I recently completed a 5-day, 1,300 mile ride on my FXDC -- a great ride. The eBay ad cited above looks like a great deal on great bike. Good luck!

I've got an 05 Lowrider, I think the Lowriders have seen their last days on the assembly line only because all the new alphabet Dynas are loas the old L/R's. It's kinda cool knowing your driving a legacy.

Limited aftermarket parts and some other comments made about the Deuce is making knock it off my list of possible choices. The rest of everyone's comments have been great, and everyone's opinions are appreciated.

I went to the ebay listing that was suggested and that FXDC is a nice looking bike at a reasoanable price. FXDCs will get more of my attention when I get serious about buying. For now, I still need to sell my '03 VS800 but selling bikes in the Boston area in Nov isn't a great market. As soon as I can sell it though, I will be on the lookout for my next bike.

By saying the Deuce has limited aftermarket support may lead the OP to thinking there is plenty of aftermarket support for Dynas when in fact they are both in the same boat.

As a first point to this, go to your local HD dealer and look at the parts section. Compare the Dyna section to the Softail section. Dyna section is always small.

I love my Dyna as we all do. Owning one just forces you to get creative on occasion when you can't find that exact part you're looking for.

Not trying to scare the OP away from the Dyna family, just being straight up with you.

Currently ride a Super Glide 04 wouldnt give it up. But.....rode a buds 08 Nighttrain would'nt get one for anything had little to like in my opinion on that bike. On the other hand my brother has an 09 Fat Bob man is that thing nice on the road definitly will be my next bike if I get another. Only change I would make is the seat and thats just my choice just love the sundowner seat for the long haul.

Any pros/cons on these three choices as well as which model years are better coices than others would be appreciated.
As a couple of posters have noted, the Deuce (FXSTD) has a couple of idiosyncracies that make it a little 'off the beaten path' for parts -- the tank is a little longer and narrower (it is now used on the Softail Rocker), and the 'swingarm' is a little different in dimensions than the rest of the Softail family ...

The Softail Standard (FXST) isn't a bad bike ... I believe it has a 'silver' PC engine/trans ...

The Low Rider (FXDL) is a great choice for the model years you're looking at ... it comes stock with mid-controls ... a lot of guys like that and at least an equal number or more hate 'em ... but, there's no option for mid controls on the Softails ...

The Low Rider has a black engine and a good looking stock paint combo (like the red/orange color with black panel) ... and a fair amount of chome ... a very good looking bike ...

I think I speak for most everyone in encouraging you to pull the trigger and join the Harley rider brotherhood ...

and don't worry ... when you announce in 36 - 48 months that you are moving over to the 'Touring' section as you traded your Dyna in for a Street Glide ... we won't roast your chestnuts too bad ...

Good luck finding the bike you're looking for ...
