That may be mostly because the motor mount(s) were loosened and tightened which brought the motor into better alignment, and you already lucked out with a decent cylinder power balance. I've read that many have reduced their vibration simply by loosening the mounts, run the motor a few seconds, tighten them back up.

Maybe. Or maybe not.

In regards to the question at hand I just got back from a trip from CA to ID. did 740 miles in one day on my FXDB, no real effects/ problems with vibrations. while I was in CA I rode my dad's x-bones quite a bit, and he rode my Street Bob. both bikes are bone stock, and while his is much smoother at idle, the difference at speed 70mph + is negligable. however his bike is slightly slower (seat of the pants) than my bike. Keep in mind the average softtail weighs almost 100lbs more than the average dyna, and the 96b actually makes a little less torque. this translates obviouslly as has been previously mentioned into more power to weight on the dyna side of the ledger.

Not at all, I rode a 14.5 hour straight shot from Milwaukee to DC on my dyna after the bob run. Fatigue only set in when I hit Maryland and I was 13 hours in and that wasn't from the vibes.

But at that point I would have been tired in a car... as a passenger...

I enjoyed every mile of that weekend, all 1800 something of them...

and just to add...

I think most agree that a dyna vibrates more on idle, smooths out with higher speed, whereas the softail idles smooth but has a "buzz" vibration at higher speed.

At least that is my impression.

(all of which are mentioned here. should of read all the way down before posting)

i rode my s.b. as hard as i could, hit the rev limiter in 1,2,and3rd. got streight off of it and on a xbones, rung it out, that b motor is SLOW. HUGE DIFFRENCE in power when you ride em hard. i couldnt own a soft tail, my dynas already to slow.
