Default 08 wideglide harley oil cooler

I'm looking at adding an oil cooler to my 08 FXDWG. My bike currently has the front engine guard 49010-06. The description of my engine guard says it will work with oil cooler 26151-07 but not with 26110-05. What is the difference between these two oil coolers? Is there a better oil cooler out there for my bike? Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like one is a ten row (taller 26110-05) and the other is a seven row (shorter 26151-07). Both go right below the regulator, so the shorter one has more clearance below it.

26110-05

26151-07

26151-07

I chose to go with the Jagg oil cooler. Reason being is the air flow to the HD coolers is partially blocked by the front wheel and fender. Also, all the road muck will be slapped up on the cooler while riding. The side mounted coolers have nothing to block air flow and out of the road debris path.

Just my 2 pennies...

I went with Jagg Deluxe, as well. Sure glad I had it last month on that Redding-->Sacramento stretch when my thermometer was pegging 113-degrees!

That may be true Blade, but it looks kinda ugly mounted on the downtube. Just my $.02
BTW, do you feel any heat on your leg from that mounting position?

Does an oil cooler help keep the engine that much cooler or is it just a way to extend the life of the oil? Can you notice a difference in bike performance or heat output on the legs? Specifically, what does it help do?

I've read that one will drop your oil temp 20-30 degrees. American Iron Magazine ran some articles (late '08?) that promoted them pretty highly. I've seen no performance changes (nor did I expect any) and at speed, I don't notice any additional heat on my left leg, even riding in shorts with my console thermometer pegging 110. I felt much better a few weeks ago blasting from Redding to Sacramento in 113-degrees at 80mph. In my own mind, I take comfort in believing I'm prolonging the life of my oil, and that my engine will fare better running cooler rather than hotter. Just my opinion, BUT, I am the world's leading authority on my opinion.

I agree Bart, it's an ugly mother...The HD looks much better and fits perfectly under the voltage regulator. I don't feel any heat from it at all...

I wouldn't not use oil any longer than recommended no matter how cool it is. You got to move that junk out. However, Heat + Friction = Engine wear....Reducing heat reduces engine wear...

No performance difference, it's just an oil cooler.

No noticeable heat on the leg at all.
