Default 2nd failure of my inner primary bearing

I have a 2006 Super Glide that was built FEB -2006, my inner Primary bearing failed at 14,500 miles and it was replaced for free about 3 weeks before my warranty was up. now a year later with 18,500 it's making noise again just like it did before. I spoke to the dealer which is 40 miles away and they said i will have to leave it there because the manufacturer requires them to do tests and check things over. I'm just worried i'm going to take it there and they will tear into it and not cover and try to charge me. I do have the knowledge and means to replace the bearing myself but don't feel i should have to pay for it, and i want the problem thats causing it to fail to be corrected. I think it's BS that i'll be looking forward to changing my primary bearing every oil change as long as i own the bike.
Anybody had it replaced a second time out of warranty???? and have the problem solved????

I hope I am wrong but I suspect 'out of warranty...out of luck'......I agree it sounds like they didnt fix the problem that caused the failure...treated the symptom and didnt cure the disease so to speak...good luck...

Had mine replaced at 12k and now have 22k with no more problems yet, But i do change my primary oil every time i do my engine every 3k. This may be over kill but it is only one qt. The way i see it is the primary doesnt have a filter to remove the shavings and clutch materials so its best to just empty it out often.

mine went at 5000 and 10000.when it went at 10000 they took my trans out and said that the main bearing in the final shaft was bad.i have 25000 now and all is good so far knock on wood.my bike is a 07 FXD.
you my need the same thing done the inner primeary bearing will not last long if your shaft is lose or not lined up right.if you do it your self check out and see if (baker) makes the bearing for your bike, they make them for high horse power bikes.

I think if all they did was replace the bearing but did not update your cases to the new design that was introduced with the 07 models, you will continue to have problems, i.e., continued bearing failures.

HELL NO YOU SHOULDNT HAVE TO PAY. GET A LAWYER. They have had too many recalls on that model.. The stators fall apart, the front end bearings clunk. How much did we pay for those bikes? I don't see no Hondas falling apart.

I guess you have a copy of the first letter that said that bearing needed to be replaced on the MoCo's dime every 15k and then the later copy they sent out that rescinded that service. Basically, the MoCo did their research and development on the consumer's dime. That crappy part should be covered for the life of the bike.

I don't know if this is the root of the problem, but I suspect on the 06 Dynas what Harley did was put the new 6-speed tranny inside the old 5-speed case, which just wasn't strong enough to handle the stress of the extra side loading the new helical cut gears would exert. This would cause misalignment with the primary and the failed bearings. That's why the only true fix for this problem is to replace the transmission case with the one that was introduced with the TC96/6-speed combo in 07.
