Mine went at 13040 miles. took it to the dealer in Medford, Or. & the service manager started to give me the old bullshit line that it wasn't a problem.. Haven't seen any go out.. but he'd be happy to tear it apart & find the real problem.. etc... so I decided that this wasn't the place to get any kind of service work done & I took it to a local guy who replaced the bearing (same day) for $150 parts & labor. I also made sure that the bearing seal clip ring was positioned so the oil passage was clear. If it goes out again I'll try to find a dealer who has an honest service manager & try again.

Checked my sticker today it says 07-05...I assume the production date was July 2005 cause I have a 2006 model year. Does anyone know if the FXDI's produced in mid to late 2005 have the IPB issue. I remember reading somewhere there was a date range where they did not use the dowled primary's.

I haven't heard of a date range for the non-doweled cases. When mine went the 2nd time this May, I got the '07+ IP and Tranny cases. HD paid for all, no $50/deductible. Took 3+ weeks, though.

Default Inner Primary Bearing 2nd. time

My first inner primary bearing in my 2006 Street Bob went at appriximatley 8,000 miles and the second one went at 18,000 miles. The first one was replaced under factory warranty and the second one under extended warranty and I paid the $50.00 deductable. Then I read here on HDForums about the MOCO replacing some inner primary cases and transmission cases. I went back to my Dealer and they called the MOCO and their Represenative agreed to replace the inner primary and transmission case if the bearing failed again and he gave me a Reference Number to refer back to for this agreement to replace upon another failure.

Some questions spring to mind:
&nbsp\\;
2) Are the 06 and 07 cases the same and therefore are 07's just as likely to be affected - alternatively if the problem was a manufacturing one, was it sorted for 07 bikes.
&nbsp\\;

07's are not affected. Changes were made.

Hmmm ... so anyone have the number for the MOCO rep that is aware of this issue?

If what I have read is correct, the 07's have dowel pins to keep everything aligned. Early 06's did not have the pins and the shaft/bearing can be mis-aligned and cause premature failure. There is another post where a member states his 06 (late build) has the pins.

I pulled mine apart this morning because it was starting to make noise. I found the cases on mine are machined for the dowels but it does not have them (04-06 build date). The bearing actually does not look too bad but the race is pretty dark. May not mean a thing but I will interpret it as a sign so I can justify the tear down.

It looks like if I can get lucky with a good parts guy I can install the dowels and the Baker bearing and not look back.

Inner primary case............

Trans case..........

Input shaft.............

Ack, if your case is drilled for 2 dowel pins, theninstall them and you should be good to go.

The race you show is shot. It got hot, and even though you cant see the metal transfer, its already happening. Replace it.

I'm assuming the dowels are the same as the starter and the primary cover where they are a sleve. The bolt holes on the trans and the inner primary are machined in the same way.

Might want to use a caliper and mic the holes, but I'm sure they're all the same thing
