Default Help - easy off & chrome

My friend melted a piece of his rain suit on one of his pipes during a long ride last week.

He was looking for techniques to remove the melted plastic, and I came accross several posts that suggest easy-off oven cleaner. He tried this, and it did work (almost) - most of the plastic came off (some bits still left). But it also caused some discoloration of the chrome -gave it little spots that look "yellow" or "copper" colored.

Anyone have any experience with this? Is the discoloration permanent, or can it be removed?

Would appreciate any hints. Thanks.

Easy off is Sodium hydroxide, ie lye, sometimes ok on removing some stuff, toluene would have been a better choice on chrome.

1. Try rubbing some ice on it to get it real cold.

2. Try a little mineral sprits aka charcoal lighter fluid.

Whatever you do make sure you polish it when finished.
