250 Degree oil temp!

Your temps will drop a bit once the engine loosens up a bit. 250 isn't that high but keep an eye on it till it breaks in.

I have 04 roadking just been riding this year. I found out when I get in backed up traffic and it starts to get hot I rev the engine up to 2100 RPM for 4 or 5 sec.it cools my cycle down.

Must be the additional flow of water through the radiator

Am am not doubting you, but that make zero sense with an air cooled bike. You have a oil cooler?

I dunno, lots of gas, no load. Must be some cooling effect.

Once you change to synthetic, find some quiet roads and run your bike as hard as it will go. Not only will this help break in, it will tell you how strong an engine you have...or don't have.

I've done this on my Harley just to see if it will blow up and it hasn't. In fact, it runs better. Any metric rider (me being one) refuses to worry about how delicate his engine is or isn't. It your Harley engine blows up, you didn't have a good one anyway. Just a more rounded opinion, FWIW.

Go synthetic oil and your problem is over.......so are your worries. I like Mobil1Vtwin 20w50.... Mobil1 75w90 gear oil in the trans. You can get both at Autozone.

Yeah, that's what Harley says. I've run oil temp guages on my 05 Classic and now my 06 Ultra Classic. It takes a surprisingly long time to get to 230 and on cooler days, it may not get there. On warmer days, I have seen 250 degrees and even 260, especially when running above 70 on the interstate. On twin cams, oil is sprayed on the bottom of the pistons to cool them down. This heats the oil up especially running at high speeds for a while. I ran the HD Syn3 in my classic and for the first 5,000 miles on my Ultra. I now run Mobil 1 20W50 VTwin, change it every 2500 miles and am considering an oil cooler before riding to Bike Week in March. Mobil says the VTwin oil is safe to 300 degrees but that seems pretty hot for oil to me. I should add that I plan to keep this bike a long time, probably over 100,000 miles so I want all the protection I can get.

Getting stuck in traffic on summer days around here and I would quite often see 250 deg.

Installed oil cooler and 230 is the upper limit now regardless where I am.
