My friend traded his 07 Ultra for a 05 Classic with 250 miles...he said it was the best deal he had made despite the $ bath he took. I rode the 07 and would not have been able to live with the racket the tranny made!

I'm sorry to hear that your friend had to part with the new bike. I have suffered from the same issue (clacking in 5th) since I purchased my 07 Ultra 2.5 weeks ago. However, it has been getting slightly quieter over time. I just got it back this afternoon from the 1000 mile service, and I don't know what they did but the sound is no longer a problem. I still have the stock pipes as well. The bike is running fantastic and I'm now really pleased with it.
I hope that you guys will get some relief soon from the dreaded "clack" as well. Best of luck.
RiderUp, you need to find out what they did. If it made a difference in your bike that much maybe it will help the rest of us.

MSN harley tech website-under 2007 ping. A little more, a tech writes to Mike S about 07 flywheel and case interference issues
we had three bikes come in for detonation last week and according to the data we pulled off of the bike thru the sert data mode as bikes were stock. we sent in the info to hd and was informed we weren't hearing knock we were actually hearing a defect in the cases interfering with the fly wheels that sounded like a knock. you may want to ask about that on your end. tech services told us it is only a knock if the knock sensor reads above 6 then knock ocurrs then the timing is retarded. i just built a 103 2007 flhx with sert stock cams hi flow and python slip-ons hopefully weather will hold out and i can tune in the next week or so. have fun
HClass action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against Harley-Davidson on behalf of owners of motorcycles with defective TC-88 engines. The suit alleges that the company acted fraudulently by failing to disclose the defect in the engines' rear cam bearing, and that Harley-Davidson breached its warranties and profited from selling the defective motorcycles.
I have a 2007 Ultra with stage 1 a/c, slip ons and SERT. The rattling noise the tranny is supposed to make seems to be a harmonic vibration that appears to exist only on the short primary of the touring bikes. I rode several 2007 softails and one streetbob without any unusual noises whatsoever. On my Ultra, it's not only in 5th gear like many state, I can provoke it in 3rd-6th gear from 2000 rpm and up and light load. If you apply the brake thus loading the engine at the same throttle position the noise calms down. I am willing to place a bet, that switching back to the 'old style' primary chain tensioner will do away with the noise. I'll see my dealer next week, maybe we can do a skunk work kind of deal and put the old style tensioner in and see what it does.
