Of course, thats Harleys fault right?
Thinking the same thing....can't imagine dropping money on a bike with a known (but curable) buffeting concern and never test ride one...

...seems like nowadays it just easier to bitch about things than to admit you possibly screwed up....

wow, can't believe this thread is still living on......

just out of curiosity, has the op resolved this issue yet? or does he still hate his rg?

yeah, i'm too lazy to go searching through this whole post to figure it out.

Default I learned alot in the last 2 hrs reading this thread

1. I need to buy an air baffle, no wonder my 2010 seemed so cool compared to my 07.
2. I need to buy lowers, probably get some HoggChopps
3. I need to remove my helmet visor

Unfortunately, I still don't know what windscreen to buy. Seems like two of the best options are the Cee Bailey and Clearview. Definately a trade off between looking cool like stock and whatever else I try. Hopefully this experimentation will not be too costly.

Oh, and where do I request my patch for reading this thread in its entirety?

Me too Wes! I'm making a list and I've got the numbers for the air baffle, the CB and CV windscreens, and also for H-Ds WS. I've test rode an 05 and an 07 RG but not the one I want to buy (yet) and since I ride a Night Train with a sport WS I though the fairing and std WS on the RGs were great. But when I take the 08 RG out for an 'extended' ride I'll try to better observe all the wind directions and do that left arm thing. I don't normally ride w/helmet and thought that the RG would be the cure for needing a FF helmet on interstate rides. I also hate the buffetting making my eyeballs bounce around!

Those of you who think these threads are needlessly long don't realize there are many of us reading these who are trying to make decisions on bike purchases - so we don't hate our Road Glides!

Oh, and you Honder and Polaris riders...well, I better not!

Jokenighttrain,
Welcome to the forums and when I get the patch for reading this thread I'll send you one.
I know where there is an immaculate 2007 Cobalt Blue FLTR with 4,000 miles for sale sitting at a dealership in Oklahoma if you decide not to go with the 08. Good luck with your search.

Man, I am really sorry to hear this. I went to the dealership bent on buying a RG but wound up with a RK because of the former's buffeting. At least with the RK, you can cut the shield down. Have you considered taking off the RG's fairing and just going with a shield?

+1.

Clowns who post stuff like that probably don't know a hell of a lot about motorcycling - either hard riding or hard physics.

I've been on race replicas up to 176 mph with ZERO buffeting and complete smooth sailing.

Before I got my RK sorted out, the buffeting at 50 mph was just plain stupid.

Just wind, huh.

They know full well that when they design and sell a motorcycle like the Road Glide that is made for high speed touring, that chincy, short windshield is not going to be acceptable for 95% of the riders. So, what do the riders do, many of then trot on down to their franchised Harley dealer and buy something else that is 15" or so. That short windshield that comes on many bikes looks way cool sitting in the parking lot or showroom floor, but when it comes to practicality it is as worthless as teats on a door. Same thing goes for mufflers and hundreds of pieces of chrome. They know what sells but they market the bikes with the things they know people will plunk down money for to change them. Didn't they make cruise control an option on Road Glides this year? Again, a marketing ploy. Cruise has been standard on Road Glides for a long time. This year they raised the price of a new bike a couple hundred bucks, but if you want cruise, that will be another 3 bills or so. Until people get tired of this crap they will happily keep on doing it. How about being able to order a new motorcycle from the factory with the equipment you want on it, instead of buying a new bike and then throwing the mufflers, floorboards and a host of other things under the bed after you order the new stuff? We might bitch and moan, but we continue to play their game. The only way the company will ever get the message to start being more consumer friendly is to go through a damn recession in sales. I remember the days when AMF damn near bought the farm for Harley because they overplayed their hand when it came to building a well built bike for the money. Hell, people quit buying them until management made a buy out themselves in order to save the company from extincion. Oh, how soon management and politicians forget.
You know, I hear what you are saying but a Harley is still a Harley. I know it's overpriced, and it'll spend time in the shop, and only a fraction of it is truly "made in the USA", but it's as close to an original as the market has left. My RK is one of the few bikes that I have enjoyed just sitting still in my garage as much as flogging it down a winding road. If the damn thing weren't so pretty just to look at, I guess I'd probably be half as loyal to the big beast. Most of my sport bike buds can't believe I've gone to the Dark Side. I guess I just got hooked.

Wes - thanks but I think I'm stuck on this 08 w/ABS, security, cams, SE slip-ons, stage-1 and blacked out front end in Mirage Orange. Just have to go for a ride, ask a bunch of questions, find some money and I can put it in the garage until it stops snowing! Don't know what kind of WS is on there but that'll be a question!?
