Cop dies after his car slams truck on BQEBy LARRY CELONA and JOHN DOYLE

A decorated homicide detective was killed when his unmarked police car slammed into the back of a sanitation truck on the Kosciuszko Bridge early yesterday, sources said.
Timothy Duffy, a 16-year NYPD veteran assigned to the Brooklyn North homicide squad who lived in St. James, LI, was driving east on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway when he rear-ended the truck at 4:19 a.m.
Duffy, 42, was declared dead at Elmhurst Hospital an hour later.
Police sources said he was on a grueling "turnaround shift," having finished work less than four hours earlier and due to start another stint at 8 a.m.
"Timmy was always smiling, always happy," said friend Louis Savarese, a retired homicide detective. "He was a person who would give his shirt off his back for his friends and family.
"When it came to being a detective, he was a hunter who wouldn't give up until he grabbed the person responsible. He was a dedicated detective, a husband and a father [of two]."
Alcohol was not believed to have been involved in the accident. The two passengers in the truck, owned by a private company, were not injured.

The tentative route will start at the NYS State Trooper barracks on the Southern State Parkway, ride up north on the Cross Island Parkway onto the Northern State Parkway and then onto the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway. The route with the least amount of traffic lights will be used.
$25 is the registration fee which includes burgers and hot dogs. There will be a silent auction as well as a 50/50 raffle. T-shirts and cupcakes will be sold to also raise money for the Duffy family.
All types of bikes are welcome. I should have more info regarding this event when the day approaches. Det Duffy left a wife and 2 little girls behind. With the holidays quickly approaching, this will be a tough time of year for them. Please show your support.
NYPD Chief Esposito is scheduled to attend this event as well. Weatherman predicts no rain for Sunday.
