I just switched out the Amsoil 20/50 wt oil in my primary to Valvoline mc 20/50 wt oil. The Amsoil has 10k miles on it and seemed a little stiff when shifting. I used the Valvoline do to the fact I didn't have any Amsoil, and wanted to try something and cheaper. It made a big difference in the shifting. Just a click and no banging while shiting into first. I will be using this oil for a while just to be sure its the real thing. For $3.99 a qt you can't go wrong.,

Put Spectro 6 Speed Tranny fluid last week in the new glide, really smoothed out the shifting. Definitely tell the difference. Put Klotz Synthetic Primary Chain Case Lubricant in yesterday, but was raining after so haven't got a chance to see how it will be. Still runnin' the 20/50 HD dino in the crank though until I get at least 1500-2000 on it and then probably go to M1 VT after that.

There is no advantage in running$10 a quart synthetic in the primary. Good old chain lube is all you need.

It may not be cheap but I do like synthetics and a quart will last several refills on a Shovelhead. I use the RED LINE V-TWIN PRIMARY CASE OIL

I use the HD primary/transmission oil. I never have problems with shifting or finding neutral.

Seems to work great wether it's 115 degrees or below freezing.

I live in the Phoenix area and I ride all year long, so I get a nice variety of temperatures

What ever one uses in the primmary it "must be for wet clutch operation" or the clutch will start slipping, so beware it will destroy the clutch and some lubs faster then stink. I would not use a gear oil in the prim.. If it does not say for wet clutch on the bottle or in the specs., then I would not use it and if one has it in the prim., I would change out real fast. Amsoil says to use their 20W50 in the prim with the secound choice being their 10W40. The 10W40 would be for colder temps as the service manual says to use for use in the engine so would be for the prim., also. You can use too heavy an oil in the prim., or engine for that matter so may be best to pick based on temp., you plan to ride it in. Oil itself will create friction if it is too heavy a weight.
