I just thought of something else too... If I go to different cams, I am going to need to have my bike dyno'd to get max power out of it. Sucks having a FI bike.

I don't think the canned PCIII maps any setups for stock 88's with Andrews 21s or 26s....

To get Max power, you'd need a dyno, if that's what you're after. Why not try Fuel Moto and see if they can send you a map for what you need.

Yeah, question is what will Jamie charge me for it.. LOL

Another thought I had.... I wonder how much more it would cost me to go to a 95" at the same time.....

Gear driven cams for sure. Almost 40,000 miles on my S&S's no problems.

Not really concerned with the thread going too far OT. The conversation is helpful.

I don't know why people don't share PC maps. I guess they don't either think about it, or just don't want to.

Spoke to a tech at the local dealer, and he was recommending that I run the 26's, and go with the gear drive or the hydraulic conversion.

Shrug.... I would love to take the bike to the shop, drop it off, and tell them "Gear drive 26's, and toss in a 95" kit...." Don't think I could afford the $2000 to do it though. I'm gonna have to scrape together to get the $1k to do the cams..

I have the same thing goin on with my 03 FLHPI...you only hear the horror stories about the stock tensioners wearing out too soon. You have 30,000 on yours, same as mine with stock tensioners,(not too bad) so my logic is the chain has 30,000 of polishing on the original shoes so if you just replace em with a stock set you could get at least another 30K outta them, maybe/probably more since the chain is smoother now, then that'll give another couple/few years to save some coin for the next time you gotta or want to go in there, thats my plan anyway, I chose the TW21, 'cause with the 3.15 gearing I've rarely gone over 4500RPMs and just lookin for good passing power in the 25-4000RPM range, then when its time to do the shoes again, we'll see....hydraulic conversion, 95"kit TW26, time will tell.

I think I have narrowed down what I am going to do. I have eliminated the "just replace the spring tensioners" route. So it's either the hyd conversion (either the HD one that is now offered in the SE book, or the Andrews one I saw in American Iron magazine). Cams still are going to be either the 21 or 26's.

95" kit is out the window. Not enough money for that...

I talked to the service manager of the dealer that original sold my bike to the PD that used it back in 04. He recommended the HD hyd conversion kit, set of Andrews 26 cams, and to replace the lifters. He said there was really no sense in going to the gear drives if I wasn't doing a 95" kit, but the hyd conversion would also support the 95" kit if I decided to go that route.

Speaking of lifters.... stock harley? Fueling? Jims? Crane?? Too many choices....

Also thought about doing the work myself, but there are only three things stopping me.

1> Tool needed to press out/in cams
2> I have a stripped out hex on one of my exhaust bolts.
3> Actually doing the work (what a bitch!)

s&s gear drive with 510 gears, comes with torrington bearings. runs like a dream. no worries of cam tensioner pads coming apart then sucked into oil pump. had 3 twin cams all converted to gear drive. alittle more up front but < in the long run.plus there is no set timeframe when pads wear out. just a thought.
