Reusable oil filter...Your thoughts!

I do like the idea of being able to wash the filter .....
While I am **** about every detail of a repair or build project, there are times I like to keep-it-simple and an oil change fits that catagory perfectly.

Good point, but this can be accomplished by cutting open your stock filter.
"Being able" to me, translates to "Having to". Am I gonna get it clean enough? Am I gonna be adding a pc of grit unknowingly?

I just looked at the kp site. Like every other co trying to sell their product they make lots of claims that might be hard to back up.It also looks like it would be easy for someone not to do a complete cleaning due to lots of pleats that could trap dirt. I might be persuaded to buy one if they actually tested their filter against a standard filter with dirty hot oil. Like if you run a gallon thru both filters, send a sample of the test oil for a uoa, then send a sample of the filtered oil for a uoa.You'll know what you started with, and what you ended up with. A that point everyone can see if their filter actually works better, or as good as a standard filter, or worse.

I use the K and P engineering filter and it seems to work as advertised. It's easy to clean and you can see any large particles of dirt, f.o., etc when you clean it.

I'll admit it is a little expensive but it does seem to be a really good filter and it lowered the oil temp of my wife's '07 Deluxe by about 15 degrees (according to her temp gauge). I use an oil cooler on both bikes and it makes it a lot easier to remove vs. the stock filter.
It doesn't really matter kind of filter you use as long as you change it or clean it on a regular basis. Just my .02 worth!

Hey, thanks for the reference rvrod. I've been running the K and P filter since the 1000 mile service. It's always good to hear about the uoa results others have experienced. This filter is very easy to clean and dry, as stated in earlier posts. You really can't argue with the low silicon numbers. If you plan on keeping your bike for more than a few years, the K and P will save you money and keep the crud out of your engine for the long run.
