Lost of options (hidden, re-locate, etc.) - for example, go to denniskirk.com & search for antenna under "Harley Davidson" where you'll see a few of these options...good luck.
J&M recently introduced an in-fairing AM/FM/WB antenna. Their stuff typically works well, though I have no personal experience with the product.
I bought a Dakota Digital clone at the local auto audio shop for $45 and it works fine in Metro Atlanta.
If you remove the antenna, you will need/want a plug for the hole in the fascia like the one on the right side. I have one if you want it. PM me your mailing address and I'll stick it in an envelope.
I filled those holes when I repainted my bike so you're welcome to the fascia plug.
The stock antenna can also be cut down. Unscrew it from the base and cut the non-ball end. I believe 10" is the minmum length to maintain good reception.

PM replied to; the plug is in a stamped, addressed envelope and will go in the mail tomorrow. Happy to do it; thing's been sitting in my spare parts drawer; it "deserves" to be on a nice SG.
