I wouldn't even get a Harley, get her a Honda to start with, see what she likes and go from there. Same as playing golf, you buy a cheap beginner set and move up to a very good set as you go.

I went through this with my G/F and got her on a Vstar (yamaha) to start. Yes she put it over twice... three times if you count a stand still drop but the deal is that...

#1 they are cheap and easy to aquire.
#2 they are fairly cheap to fix (stock take offs are all over the forums)
#3 they are light and easy to manuver (provided you get the right one)
#4 and most important your investment is low and after riding for a bit and getting her endorsement she can ride and deside for herself what she likes and doesn't in a bike. Then you can go out and really invest in something that she will want to ride for a while. There are always people in the market for cheaper, starter metrics.

I agree that experience is no joke and it would not be funny for anyone when someone pulls in front of them. I was just trying to make light of the topic as it would be funny to see her riding throught town on a HOT PINK VESPA

If she wants to learn on a Harley, get a Sportster and the one year trade in deal. That way she can ride it for a year and then get the Dyna and you won't lose much money on the trade in.

thats a good idea-I will look into that
1 thing I have read and also posted here is that the Sportster has a high center of gravity (top heavy) so that would be more difficult for a small female to control @ low speeds.
I see alot of sporters for sale that are pertty good deal. We also had a conversation on getting a metric bike (650cc) then upgrade to what she really likes.
like said before, you cannot buy experince so a low CC bike thats easier to handle makes alot of sence untill she gets confidence.
guys really appreciate the feed back as I really want her to enjoy riding and be safe BUT not be totally afraid everytime she puts her leg over the seat.

Default wife's first ride

I know I am going back a few years, but when all of my buddies and their wife's were first starting they bought either a Honda Rebel 450 or a Suzuki Savage 650 single. Had the cruiser look and the dependability at an affordable price. Just my two cents worth. Good Luck!

Used Buell Blast, then move her to a Dyna Low Rider when she is ready.
