Default 1st bike recommmandations for wife

Wife says she would like to learn to ride (great). She will take the MST course for sure but when it comes to a good bike for her I am not to sure as she is only 5'-5" & 120lb. I have read many threads but would like to hear from people that have been in the same situation.
appreciate all the feedback.

Colin

Honestly? If it were me, I would get a cheap scooter/vespa/moped if she has never even been on two wheels. But if she is confident, then maybe a used 883 sporty?

Sportster, 1200 low or a wideglide.
Depends on your budget.
It would suck to buy a bike, and in a year get her a new one that she would like more.

Get her in the MSF class and let her complete it before you buy.

It really depends. Sporty's are great first bikes, but they have a really high center of gravity. Maybe an 883L or a nightster as they are both pretty low. But...I would insist my wife get a fatboy low or deluxe.

buy a used metric bike like a honda shadow for her to learn on. spend a few thousand on that instead of the damaged parts you'd have from her dropping a brand spankin new harley davidson.

I agree, the cheap jap bikes are easy to come by. My wife started on a Suzuki gz 250 (paid $1000 for it), rode it for a year then picked out a 07 dyna low. She is only 5'1" in riding boots, so i did have to lower it another 1.5". Now she rides the tires off it!

does she want a harley?YES
what does she like? she wants a pink Harley (no ****)
is she a strong or weak 120#? she is real strong just looks scrawny :-)
does she want to go on trips.? yes
does she want only to ride in town? around town & day trips
does she want a smaller bike to learn on?? thats a good questions
how many miles will she ride a yr? 3000 maybe
will she only ride solo??yes
will she take a long trip once in a while??yes
what sound does she like or does it matter? oh sounds is important, I had V&H straight shots and she like them.
Does she like the Luxes...??? big bike ??
How much can U afford. $15k max
what do U want to get her??? I thought of a Dyna low rider.

I did think of the 250/650 metric but she does not like the metric bikes even thought its just to get some confidence (i agree). as for the "scooter/vespa/moped" SHE GOT A GOOD LAUGHT OUT OF THAT
