Lots of people have just added slip-ons like the SE II's that you have and not added a high flow air cleaner and re-jetted the carb so I wouldn't assume that as fact just because the bike already had slip-ons.

The HD SE II slip-on Mufflers are just fine so you don’t have to spend any money there. I have a pair on my 2007 XL1200L Low. They are not too loud so my neighbors are happy about that and the performance is good enough for now. The jets for a Carburetor are really fairly inexpensive to buy and you only need a couple of jets and they are easy to put in while the Carburetor is still on the bike. Just screw the original ones out and screw the new ones in. If you bought the bike used, you might check out the Carburetor jets first to see if they are the stock jets or not, as the original owner may have already upgraded everything already for you. Since you already have the performance mufflers, I would, if you could, upgrade to a more, free flowing Air Cleaner if you don’t already have one on it now. The HD SE Air Cleaner that I have installed on both my 2007 XL883 and my 2007 XL1200L Low look very much like the stock unit that the bikes came with. Again, if you bought the bike used, you might already have the upgraded Air Cleaner on it, so before you spend any money on anything, do a little homework and inspect your bike first. If you know for a fact that you only have the upgraded HD SE II Mufflers, you will really benefit from a more, free flowing Air Cleaner and it really just bolts on in place of the stock Air Cleaner and, of course, the new Carburetor jets to go with it. Check out some older Threads here on the HDForum about doing the Stage 1 upgrade yourself so that you will have a good idea of what to do and what to expect. For me, after the upgrades to the Air Cleaner and the Mufflers, the motor ran SO much better that I thought it justified the expense. Don’t worry about the Ignition Module upgrade. You will be good to go with the normal Stage 1 upgrade as is. I have done the Stage 1 upgrade on three of my Sportsters and on one of my good friend’s 2002 XL883 Sportster all with great results. My friend’s Sportster is running the Cycle Shack slip-on Mufflers and they are much louder than my HD SE II Mufflers and they cost lots less too! I already have a 2 into 1 Header that I will eventually put on my 2007 XL1200L Low, but that is for my riding pleasure in the near future. Hey man, good luck with your bike and ride safe out there!

If you've already got the SEII's & the K&N filter set up, the carb has "probably" already been rejetted. Just look at the carb to see if the plug has been drilled out, and if you don't know about the carb, look at the DIY sticky at the top of the main sporty page for carb re-jetting to see where the plug is.
