I thought that beginning in '06, they used a better wearing material that were also hydraulic as opposed to the spring tension ones. Supposedly longer lasting.

Depending on your year, might be best to check into that with someone smarter than me.

I had my 05 RKC checked just before I traded it in at 40k. Very little wear on the tensioners according to serv mngr.Was going to change it out to gear drive but traded it.

S&S gear drive works good for me. 2002 RKC had about 28000 miles on it. One tensioner shoe was almost all gone , and the other was missing half.

Check them.. If they're fine, leave them alone.

All these people give you the advice to check the oil filter, and tensioner shoes but I don't hear too many of them telling you how to check the inside shoe. Shoes are for feet.

I run my used oil through a screen and cut open my oil filter to check for pieces of orange plastic, when I change oil. I have only found a few very small flakes so far at 20,000 miles. I'm still going to check them out this winter.
