I got 8k out of a 200 Cobra on the back of Softail Custom, no complaints about performance, it just wore out way to fast. Back to Dunlops which seem to last about 12k.
I am running the 240/40VR18 on mine. I got about 4200 miles on my stock wheels and close to 6000 on a Dunlop Elite III. Just recently put the Avon Cobra on, so I haven't been able to put a lot of miles on it as yet. However, it seems to have made the ride a bit smoother than my two previous tires (of course that could be just me), and it appears to grip the road a tad beter. My son has one on his Wide Glide and my daughters boyfriend has one on his night train, both of them really like the tire.
DragonSlayer - What is the price difference between the Avon's and Stock tires? How's the handling on the Avon's?

I can't really tell you the price difference from the stock tire (Available from OEM dealers only) as it came with the bike and I never replaced it with a stock. The tire was replaced at 4200 miles with a Dunlop Rear Elite 3 250/40VR-18 Blackwall Tire, which cost me around $160 with shipping. The Dunlop yielded about 6000 miles and I replaced that with the Avon Rear Cobra AV72 240/40VR-18 Blackwall Tire ran $205.
When I put the Dunlop Elite 3 on I thought the handling improved significantly. Ran the Tail of the Dragon this summer three times and it handled really well, didn't feel any rear end slippage at all going trough some tight turns at significant speed. Also ran the Cherohala Skyway two times, overall 2300 miles on the tire for that trip, 932 miles for one of the five days on the trip.
I have maybe 200 miles on the Avon Cobra and it seems to have smoothed out the ride more and grips really well in the turns. If I can get 6000 or more miles out this tire it will be the one I will stick with until something better comes along.

I'm running a stock size (200-55/17) Cobra on my NT. Once I found the "sweet spot" for inflation pressure, I felt that the handling improved and the bike actually feels lighter now.
How many PSI is the 'sweet spot' in your rear tire?
Thanks
i had an avon on the back of mine, when i put new rim on i was going to put a cobra on it but last one sold when i arrived!so my experience with avon is good tyre, but havent tried the cobra, but will probably put one on next time!
I have the same tire as dragon on the rear and it made the ride significantly smoother. I plan on sticking with Cobra next time I change them out even if its sooner than dunlops, IMO.
