The way I read the Service Bulletin, it only addresses the Softail and Dyna starter. I wonder why.

I've had several occasions where I've told the dealer about a service bulletin and they denied it even existed, only to have to do it later.

It also states all touring right below.......
I just checked my service manual for my '07 and the starter mounting bolt torque values were 25-27 ft./lbs. I have had the manual well over a year before the service bulletin dated Sept. '08 was released......Wonder what gives??

Thanks eglidekid for the bulletin. I am doing a major engine "uplift" and I will be checking that.

Again, thanks.

I re-torqued my starter bolts earlier this year when I first got my hands on the SB, but it didn't require much more tightening to achieve the extra few ft-lbs of torque. I didn't have any starter trouble before that time and haven't since. I also didn't change the exhaust bracket, use blue Loctite, or do anything else as mentioned in the SB. I just loosened both bolts and retightened to the new specs.

Getting ready to do a service on mine, I'll check them.
I did look at my service book (section 5-5) and it shows 25 -27ft lbs....FYI

had my 3rd starter go in the bike this summer and the dealer mentioned the torque. You'd think HD would learn to pass info on to owners. It might save the moco a buck or two and the owners a bit more time in the saddle
