That is their fault and they should eat the cost. I would speak to the service manager if necessary and explain the situation. Not your problem at all. Name the dealer too. Provide good info here for us.

And you didn't burst out laughing and hang up on them?! If the dealer had you pay $380 6 months ago and just noticed they overcharged you $100, do you think they'd be calling you to say they're mailing you a check for $100? 'nuff said!

Seems to me that the person who incorrectly printed out your invoice owes them some money.

No, I wouldn't pay. And if they threatened legal action I would laugh hysterically. You have the invoice saying "Customer to pay 24.95" and a receipt stating you paid it they have no legal ground to collect anything from you.

Something similar happened at sears a few years ago. Guy bought a brand new riding lawnmower .... for 50 bucks. Clerk never said anything, guy just paid, took his lawnmower and left. Couple months later they realized their mistake and tried to collect ... to no avail.

Well....do you have to pay...probably not. But since they are chasing you for the money your at a cross roads. If you don't pay your probably not going to be welcome there anymore.

So if all aside and it's a great dealer and convienant to you, does good work, and it works for you to keep going there...and besides the "mistake" if you really should have been charged that amount in the first place.......do you really want to hold this "mistake" over their heads and force yourself to have to go elsewhere for the rest of your life to save $250.00 bucks? Your call.

In my mind, if you *know* your bill is supposed to be significantly more than what they have asked you to pay, and you say nothing, that's the same as stealing. In your case, paying for a service, it might not have been so obvious, but, the guy with the lawn tractor knew damn well it wasn't supposed to be anything near $50.

Still... 6 months later on your service bill, and now they want you to pay? That's more than a bit ridiculous. I vote with the crowd who suggests dumping this dealer and taking your business elsewhere.

Thanks again for all the info, the general consensus is to not pay.

just so you all know, the dealer is southside harley in virginia beach, va.
I have been there a few times and have never really been happy with customer service anyways, so ill just go to another dealership,(bayside) its only about 5 miles farther from my house and each time ive been there have enjoyed the experience more anyways.

I've got a bill for 24.95 and a receipt saying I paid it in full. Sounds like you guys screwed up. How 'bout I do the stand-up thing and pay what your asking me to and you guys cut me a 15% deal on the next 3 scheduled services for my trouble?

It really boils down to whether you want to maintain a relationship with the dealer (and more to the point, the service department). Personally, I'd probably pay it and work a deal with them. 'Course, I'm a wuss, a rub and a motorcycle enthusiast so, YMMV.

*edit* - ah, didn't see that you were already decided on not going back. Enjoy the extra tanks of gas (or the new farkles for the bike)!
