On my latest road trip, 5500 miles, I verified that the fuel gauge on my Roadglide is totally accurate from full to empty and everything in between. Of course that's reading while running on the level.
Maybe I am lucky. My fuel gauge is always so fogged up with condensation I can't see it. Odometer is fine though. I know when to start thinking about getting gas.
Just have to learn how to read 'em. I used to think that 1/2 mark in the center of the gauge meant a half tank. Couple of cross country rides this summer taught me different......... On this bike it means that for every 2 miles I got on the right side of the gauge I'm gonna get 1 mile on the left side! In other words, if I get 120 miles from "full" down to the mid-point on the gauge, I'm gonna get 60 miles down to the "you better get gas" point on the left.. 'Course I use the odometer & the Zumo to keep real track of when I need gas so the gauge is just an exercise to keep my mind occupied on boring stretches of highway.......
Mine is way off also 2010 FLHTK. my 08 was pretty close but this new bike is off about 2 gal. When I bought this new "Limited" I did not know that "Limited" ment that it was "Limited" to the stuff that actually works.

That is EXACTLY how mine works (when I can see it through the condensation). LOL If you think about it, the shape of the tank and the fact that it holds far less in the bottom half due to the frame tube passing under it, of course the bottom half will not contain as much fuel as the top half. I suppose you could re-calibrate the gauge if you were so inclined, so the 3/4 mark was really the half full (or half empty) mark, but I have never really felt the need for that since I rely on the odomoter, and I am an old fart that needs to stop freequently to pee and stretch my legs. I have no problem stopping every couple hours to fill up one tank and empty the other.
Trip meter only for me. At 200 miles I start thinking about fuel. I also carry an extra 10 miles worth in a fuel bottle. Never needed it myself, YET, but have helped others several times.
