Default New Orleans Bike Week

I'm looking to attend the 2nd New Orleans bike week from 5-8 May. Did anyone attend the 1st one and are there any recommendations as to where to stay? Any input would be greatly appreciated

I didn't make the 1st one but a buddy of mine did. He said it was good for a first year rally. It was all based around the warehouse district just outside the quarter. The cops were passing out tickets for wrapping the pipes down in the french quarter. Other than that, the pics he took were ok. Maybe I'll be able to make the 2nd and it will grow a little.

I hadn't heard about this rally. My wife and I meet friends in NOLA every year the week after Mardi Gras (the puke and urine smell isn't as strong in the Quarter, LOL).
I think a few of us are going to rent some Harleys this year and ride around LA while the girls do their thing. I wish I could get enough time off to ride my own bike down, but I only get WED-SUN. What are some good day rides from NOLA?

You may want to try this site for starters. There are probably a couple more just do a search for La. motorcycle roads. Just don't look for much, it will be flat, but I can put you on some twists. A nice day ride out of N.O. would be to take Hwy. 22 from Hwy 61 to Covington/Slidel a few curves and following the bayou for part of the way. Also Hwy 90 and you can cruise the coast to Bolixi (but be careful Madi Gras day, Bolixi has a parade, don' ask how I know). New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Hammond rents Harleys.

I'll second highways 16 and 22. The river roads are nice too; some spots are a little rough. Oak Alley and Nottoway Plantation homes are along there. False River and New Roads are nice areas also.

Thanks for the suggestions, gents. I can't wait to get back to New Orleans. Incredible food, great bars and fantastic live music. Plus the people watching is something else!

Sorry ShoreRider, I should have addressed your questions first. I went down to N.O. for one day of the rally last year. I was not too impressed, but hopefully they may make it better this year. One thing I did not care for was that registration was quite a bit from vendor/rally site. From my understanding all rides were from the registration site and not the actual rally site. Vendors were not very happy with this set-up. Personally, I do not care for cities and this rally is right in the middle of downtown which is the reason I really did not participate, only visited one day. On the bright side it was held only a few blocks from the french quarter which is what most visitors are looking for.

I did not hear of any problems and police did not seem to be a problem at the rally site. But the french quarter may be a little different. Police in the french quarter are usually a little more strick, but this usually the case, they have to keep control in this area and quarter residents usually stay on the cops back and monitor everything they do.

As for places to stay, there are a number of hotels within a few blocks of the rally site. Hilton, Harrah's, Double Tree, etc., but remember some of these can be expensive. Depending on your budget, you can stay much cheaper on the outskirts, again many to choose from.

I do not live in N.O. and personally do not care to go there too much (just me and cities, not just N.O.), but if I can help you in any way just let me know.

Hwy 61 to St Francisville (Magnolia Cafe) is another good area. From St Francisville take Hwy 10 through Jackson (great somewhat hilly country) to either I 55 or 51 depending on time.
BTW Andouille thanks again on info for our Natchez Trace Trip we had a great time. Did you get over to Gonzales for the cop rodeo about 2 weeks ago?
