I'll second the gas in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado. We made the loop home from Sturgis down to Denver and back to Kansas City. One of the guys running a '90 evo had to dump his tank at one point. It was the worst gas I've ever seen until we got back into Kansas. Mine ran ok but got about 30-35 mpg at the worst point. Really makes you wonder.

Yeah it sucks, when ever I go out of the metro and find real gas my 08 runs like a top on it. when I'm in the metro mess I regularly run some RXP in every other fill up and it compensates nicely, if you haven't tried it give it a shot, its not an octane boost it just makes sure most of whats in your tank burns and isn't wasted. I don't know about other parts of the country but here its used a good deal. I swear by it with the reformulated pond scum they call gas nowadays

With gas being so high, nobody is buying high tess gas. Its laying in the tanks and going bad. I ran it in everything, Now the king is the only vehicle that gets the good stuff. 1 ounce of sea foam per gallon in the tank seems to help.

Funny thing is... cool air has more density than hot air. I used to get much better fuel mileage in the winter.

Now that there's stupid ethanol etc in gas here in the winter months (Oct-Mar) I actually only get about 40mpg versus the 50+ I used to get. I don't hot dog or twist my throttle at intersections while bored at redlights...

poop, I say

Audi states the need for premium, yet my A4 runs perfectly on regular (3.2L engine). Porsche states the same thing regarding octane levels, but my Porsche runs like trash on anything less than 93 octane, and more than 10% Ethanol is a big no-no that will supposedly cause major ignition and emission problems- so I buy BP 93 for the Porsche and my FLSTF- so I am helping sales of high octane gas.
All my vehicles run better in cooler temperatures as well.

Default Gas today!! ??

A couple points:
1) Ethanol is an octane booster.
2) Ethanol stoich is about 9:1 - Gasoline is 14.7:1

So, while ethanol is a good octane booster it still takes more to get the engine to run good as applied to even with as little as a 10% blend.

IME, These V-twins seem to run fine @ 14.0-14.5:1 on gasoline
and run fine @ 13.5-13.8:1 on 10% blend.

My advice is to get your bike tuned for 14.0:1 in light load/low TP and 13.2-13.5:1 for heavy load/high TP. If necessary you can increase fuel delivery more if needed.
Hoping this helps,
Bob

Won't be long and we will have a fuel sensor in the tank and all be using lambda.

Ethanol is a big problem here in Colorado. It degrades quickly and takes octane with it, not to mention some of the other inherent problems. With current fuel prices, premium typically sits in storage to the point where the ethanol has substantially degraded by the time the fuel is dispensed at the pump. I've have great results with an additive called Star Tron made by Starbright. I discovered it through a marine dealer when having serious fuel issues in my high perf. boat. I now run it in all my motors. Their website gives the details of how it works and while the chemistry is over my head I just know it works in a big way.
