Question on Heads with a stroker build?

Default Question on Heads with a stroker build?

I am contemplating having stroker built for my 02 FLHT. I was wondering if stock TC88 heads cam be reworked if I decide to build a 113 or bigger. Thanks

Absolutely you can have the stock heads redone and they will be better than buying something through HD. Check with some of the reputable builders /suppliers . Lots of choices but my preference is HeadQuarters.

There are several recent threads on improving performance of TC engines. Check them over, especially the "96ci to 113ci?" one, as there are several experts posting there who can answer your questions. I think you will find you can improve performance substantially without stroking and at quite modest cost.

Be aware that if you start getting into serious expense modifying your current engine, you get close to the cost of an aftermarket engine with a substantial performance increase. I have an S&S 107 in place of my old 80!

it all depends on what you want out of a build.
a good solid running 95/98 will perfor, very nicely with head work cams and a good pipe and tune.
if cubici inches are what you are after remember after 103/107 there are other factors to considr such as clutch,chain, as well as cost.
a good 103/107 build if thats what you want will cost way less then a 113/117/120/124.
also a good solid 95 will perform flawless and is a very common build. some times with the right combo of parts most do not want or need more
the choices can add up it depends on what you want to pay for.
power costts.

You guys make some good points. My 95 inch build on my Screamin Eagle Deuce cost me 4000 for the motor alone plus another 1000 to tune it with the Direct Link. The bike made 113/110. and was done top to bottom. When I decided I wanted a bagger I looked for a early 2000 model that was carb because I was hoping to get away with doing just the top end and not having to split the cases and deal with mapping the efi. Its my understanding the earlier models are suppose to have timken bearings and Ive seen some good deals on craigslist and flea bay so thats why I was considering stroking the Electra. If I do a 95 build do you think I can get away with just doing the top end? Will the lower end hold up unlike the flyweels that shifted in my Deuce with 2300 miles? I just figured if I had to do the bottom end why not stroke it.

i beleive your model has the timkin as well as the old forged crank. cylinders pistons and heads. i beleive you will be fine . ill Tell you this i have been at Daves shop (jd's cycleworks in PA) a lot and he has been using a lot of T-Man products with great success.
give him a call and shoot the breeze with him pick his brain a little and get some ideas.

The OE castings can most certainly be re-worked to a level that will even feed 124" engines.

At what point as far as hp and tq do I need to worry about the stock trans and belt holding up? I figure changing the clutch would be a given but what am getting down to is at what level does a big cube engine turn into having to spend more money into the stock drive line?

Depends on how you ride it. If every red light is a starting line you might want to think about a chain. If you're just looking for more power your stock driveline will hold up fine.

I have 44 k miles on the original belt, 35k as a 120". I dont do wheelies or burnouts but I am an agressive rider.
