I will go up at least once or twice or more this winter...Maybe not that south but at least around Boone/Shady valley...We may hit the southern NC hills too. Depends on the funds... I love it there and like you. Everytime i go i seems to ride a bit slower and look at stuff and take all the beuty in. We have already booked a week in Cherookee for April. I go several times a year with just the boys but i like to go with the wife on the back, it makes me slow down and stop at nice places.
My cousin lives near Chattanooga (Cleveland, TN) and has mentioned Helen, Ga being a neat place. We visited this summer but did not make it to Helen but it sounds like a must with a over night stay so some drinks can be enjoyed. We were also exploring the area as a retirement location, since we have relation there it would make it a easy transition. The wife and I both ride and it does not look like we would run out of nice places to ride to. We will only be in our early 50's so hopefully would have a few years of riding to go down there.
We have a chance of some showers over the next couple days but should have week of mild temps here. 70's to the 50's for any that can get away. Try Sprues Pine or burnesville area for a stay over to. Nice motel heading into SP pine valley motel and a couple more with views and beer on the BR at hi-226 also for those with better taste or money Switzerland Inn. Burnsville has a couple real nice older style motels ,one on west mian and one behind Mak D's. Great back roads throughout yancey, mitchell, and avery county too and never have get on the BR.
Thanks for the info Hardluk. As for the weather, I would never let it deter me from riding in that area of the country. Besides, that's the great thing about the south. "If you don't like the weather, hang around a minute it's bound to change soon".
madav8r Know what you mean about rideing here. I have road when in the high teens but knowing the roads are dry and the moisture is real looow but i don't make a habit of it anymore. Just to much rain lately and that makes those low temps hurt to much. But still lots of good rideing , for sure.
