Default 3M headlight film for Road Glides

Since there are alot of people adding the SERG headlight bezel to their Road Glides w/o actually installing the hardened headlights, one of you crafty individuals might want to consider making some die-cut 3M headlight protectors for the stock lenses and offer them up to forum members. I know there are many folks running with the bare lights with no problems. But it is only a matter of time before someone gets some bad scratches, chips or even a crack from a rock. I'm getting ready to add the bezel myself and would be all for a set of die-cut protectors. Cheap insurance IMO. And a helluva lot cheaper than new lights.

Because the headlight lenses are exposed with the bezel. I don't think that the headlights are made to be exposed to the elements over the long-term. Hence the reason they made the ones on the 09 SERG and 10 FLTRX with hardened lenses.

If I remember correctly, headlight lenses have been exposed for many generations. But I'm gettin old, maybe I just don't understand as well as I once did.

Now see ButtMan? If you had one of those fancy hardened headlight lenses, you could have avoided all that!
Maybe you could double up for EXTRA safety...

Ok, I looked at a few other threads about the bezel yer speakin of. I didn't realize that the lamp itself was exposed. You were saying 'headlight' and I was thinking of the outer tempered glass encasements. There's no doubt that high heat lamp should be protected. They were also speaking of the cost of replacement for the headlight assembly being like 500 bucks? I think I'd check auto parts store and see if there isn't an alternative...

Crok, on a Road Glide there is no glass in the headlamp assembly at all. The two headlights themselves have plastic lenses, apparently not hardened plastic on the standard models. They are then covered by an outer hardened plastic cover. A lot of owners are removing the outer plastic cover and installing a filler bezel around the headlights. This exposes the headlights themselves to impact ant it sounds like they may not be able to handle it. Garemlins idea is a good one and I have some bulk 3M fulm out in the garage. So I may see about making up a set of covers for my bike.

I'd like to know if the part number for the 10 RGC's or the 09 SERG's against the 08's. Are they any different? If they're not, then the different hardened Len's thing is bunk.

I bought the Euro - Spec headlight plate from Zanotti's for $180 Canadian. The Euro-spec throws out more than 50% more light due to the way the reflectors are cut. It came complete. Plate, Bulbs, total plug-in-play. It even had the 3rd light (tiny bulb) that they have to use in Europe, but I removed it. didn't fit with the bezel.

Not saying the 3M idea is a good idea, but I'd do the Euro over (@ $180) and over again before I'd ever put out $500 (if that's even the case) for the crap that the factory came with.

If you guys want, I can probably find the part # from there on my other computer. I have to ride in the dark a lot more than all of you due to being so far north. One of the other forum members (Beemervet) here turned me on to this and I can't thank him enough.
