I read the jack threads all the time on here, and see guys say they are worried that bikes can or will fall from lower price jacks. Just wondering if that has happened to anyone and if so how did it happen. Was it operator error or did the jack or table fail and send the bike crashing down?
i have a really cheap table lift. 300$ from princess auto. i bought it thinking i will have to "beef" it up a little. got it home and it looked pretty strong to me. rated at 1500lbs. its been two yrs now and no mishaps yet. my sporty is on there now, about 3 ft in the air, i hope!
Most mishaps will be caused by operator error. If a bike falls off a table, one could assume the bike was not secured properly.
While using a jack, always keep an eye on the height. I have seen some bleed down after a while. If the jiffy stand is not lowered..crash dent cry cry!! Operator error by not setting the locking device.
I use my yellow Crsaftsman on a regular basis. I do not leave the bike unattended while on the stand. The support is firm with no straps and would take a significant bump to fall over.....unless NOT PROPERLY CENTERED!!
Not I, pretty much use mine to spin the tires to clean. Although I do have a bud that leaves his bikes up all winter on his craftsman red jacks with no issues.
i use my Red Craftsman jack for cleaning, wrenching, winter storage. I always make sure i have the set stop in place, and usually have th bike strapped down as well. An ounce of prevention...
It has not happened to me but I have seen it happen - Not Pretty. It was in slow motion and caused more damage than you would think. The bike was not strapped down and seemed to be unstable on the lift. A little pressure tightening muffler clamps pushed it over.
Needless to say, after seeing that I make sure my bike is secure.

Several years ago I had my wife's Fat Boy on a jack, I did not set the manual locking, I went to lunch, did not get back to the garage for a few days. My wife got a new paint set out of the deal.... cost about $3000, expensive lesson.
