Getting close to that time when I will have to decide weather to continue with the H/D recommended setup or elect to go with gears. I know the pro. for staying with stock is that you know what you're getting yada, yada. Would appreciate any comments from those of you that have had to make this choice one way or the other.
A little "sewing machine" noise, but I kinda like that. No con to them I can think of; the spring loaded time bombs the MOCO saddled the twin cam with are really a POS IMHO.
Thanks for your rapid response Jamesw. My 2003 Ultra is totally stock and runs great as is. However, I know somewhere around 30,000 miles you need to take a close look at those tensioners. Currently at 28,000.
You can always do the SE hydraulic tensioner upgrade kit that includes the upgraded oil pump. That way you don't have to worry about messing with your crank runout.

Thanks for your response. Have an 03 ultra that is totally stock. Will have tension pads checked for wear in about 2 grand. Sounds like the hydraulic system is the way to go. Since I'm a conservative rider, it will be interesting to see how much wear has taken place.
Thanks,
Santini

How about a Herko Pro Kit from Flying W performance. John offers a great kit to upgrade to the new style tensioners and has awesome customer service. I put one in my 2006 Night Train with Andrews 21N cams, new SE Adjustable Pushrods, and B Lifters in Aug. and couldn't be happier.
