The PCV makes changes in 1° increments, with "0" being the value given by the ECM. Thus, a "-10" retards the timing 10° at that point compared to the advance imposed by the ECM. So, if the ECM is dictating 20° of advance, placing "-10" at 500 RPM @ 0 TP would effect 10° of advance at that point. I'm only able to change down to 500 RPM, so maybe it's not worth doing.
Does sound like 500 would be beyond the point where any start timing drop will have benifit.

Do you know how much the tuner retarded the timing and at what RPM? I thought about going -10° at 500rpm @ 0% TP in the PCV ignition table just to release some burden off the starter.
Does anyone have an opinion about the wisdom of this move if I'm not having any issues with the SE255 cams in an otherwise stock TC96. I also have the SE comp installed and have no more starter knock.
Iclick, sorry but this was the first time the tuner had tried that, he had heard of it but not done it....next time I talk to him I see if he can find it...
this was on the older SERT.. bought it in april 07
Not likely. Just have a noise I can't explain, but suspect the auto tensioner. As for the SE components like the thrust washer and thin spring, I won't know what shape they are in until the end of Oct. There could be no problem at all. My unit is still working just fine and the driveline is just as silent as the day it went on. Startup is the only time I sometimes hear an odd noise and could end up being no connection to the comp. You will like it once installed.

I checked the auto tensioner on mine and it was fine. SE Compensator was cater from the get go and hasn't changed in 10,000 kms Drive line slack went away and no started back lash, just sounds like a bunch of nuts in a squire cage.
