Default Sportster Mods - blinkers? cables? handle bars/riser? other ideas?

Hey all,

I just bought a 2007 Sportster XL1200C for my first bike. I just got my license, I've been riding around a bit and having a good time.

Two things I know I am going to do:
1. Vance and Hines short shots
2. New Seat and Sissy bar

I am also thinking about doing some things to make the bike look "cleaner." Does anyone have any ideas about what can be done with the blinkers? cables? I feel sure there is some good info on this, but I haven't been able to find it. Do all states require blinkers on motorcycles?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for wider/higher/more comfortable handle bars?

Also, has anyone changed the speedo and/or other instruments on their sportster? I am thinking about something a little smaller, maybe mounted lower. The gas light, oil light, etc. look fairly integral with the handlebar set up though.

Thanks!

You can find a ton of ideas by using the search function. The options for handlebars are limitless. If you search for "drag bars" or "apes" you will find more that enough info. Internally wiring the bars and relocating the blinkers cleans up the front end. There are also a lot of people that have relocated their speedometer. I decided to remove the reflectors on the rear fender and front forks. I also got rid of the huge stock taillight and replaced it with a low profile LED. My sig pic is a little older so my fork reflectors weren't off yet.

I'm in the process of doing just what you've mentioned. I've already ordered and received the HD parts used in Capttawes speedo relocation. However, I'm waiting on the V-Twin bracket that'll hold the speedo. It's on back order - hope it doesn't take too long to get here...

Still trying to decide between T-bars and mini-apes....

Congrats on your Sporty,
You will like the Short Shots. Moving the front TS to the forks & removing the side reflectors (front & rear) are pretty easy.

I loved my drag bars on my past sporty. I had a '83 with 3.5 fatbob's and a custom belt final drive. It was the most comfortable ride.
My new to me '05 1200c is nice with the stock setup. I could not do a low rider or R model as I cant stand the spedo/tac out in front of the bars.
