bike runs good, but mpg seems low

I carefully kept records of gas/mileage for a few weeks this summer, and it all averaged out to around 42 mpg. That was almost exclusively two-lane blacktop riding. My motor is not stock, but not that heavily modified either - Wood 6 cam, shaved heads for slightly higher compression, high-flow air cleaner on a later model CV carb with Wood jets and needle, true dual exhaust, high performance ignition.

Pretty much what mine gets at 70-75mph on the interstates: 40-45 mpg. I usually start looking for a gas station every 160-180 miles, and 'normally' it will take 'around' 4 gallons to top it off. All depending on how many times I had to hold 80 mph to get around traffic and how strong the wind was. Oddly, having a passenger seems to have minimal effect on my mpg figures.

im getting about 44 mpg on my 90, i have a cam and S&S Super E. my neighbor had a 93, about the same motor, and said he got 46 mpg. so i dont think id mess with the carb to just pick up 4 or 5 mpg. now if you were getting 35 mpg then it might be worth checking.
