Default HWY 88 backside of Tahoe Bitchin Ride

Hello all, just did Highway 88 from Stockton into Nevada on the backside of Lake Tahoe. Then over Kingsbury grade and don into South Sore Tahoe. Totally beautiful Fall colors on the hardwood trees, and the road was full of pulled over cars with people taking pictures and just enjoying the pallete of color that was on display. Very Kodak if ya get my drift. The Kingsbury grade part had some great curves and climbs very quickly out of the Nevada desert on the east side. Was a really cool trip and one we are going to do again this weekend. This time we will have a camera though. Kirkwood Inn is a good place to stop and have a good lunch (always bikes there). Can't recommend this road and trip highly enough especially now in the fall color show. Ride Safe and Enjoy!

Default We forgot the camera!

We are going part of the way back there tomorrow. If we have time we might get far enough up there to get some pictures of the blazing colors of the trees. Highway 88 held the great distinction somewhere in the mid-sixties of being known as the most scenic highway in America as designated by Sunset Magazine. The Bristle Cone pines trees that line the higher elevation portion of this route are considered the oldest living things on the planet with ages of 4,000 years plus. And those trees are very unique in appearance and form. Hope people in this region get a chance to SEE what I mean. Ride Safe and always have fun.

I did that ride yesterday; Bay Area to Kirkwood Inn for lunch (Staff is really cool and attentive) Back West then the Mormon Emigrant Trail to Sly Park, Hwy 49 back towards Jackson, Ca 16 towards Sac, one long *** road to Elk Grove, then home over the Antioch Bridge. I didn't take the Deuce because it was probably my last chance at high speed riding this season and (yeah I use the tired line) I felt a need for speed.

Lots of bikes were out and good people abound. Kirkwood is awesome and the coloring of the trees and bushes were awe inspiring.

I'll post pics when I can figure out my stupid(?) camera.

I went that route a few years back. I loved it there. The wife and I went on a week long vacation on the bike.

Default We got back there on Sat.

We went up as far as the Kirkwood Inn or Cafe. The food is good and the portions are generous to say the least. Had a dish called snow on the roof...roasted and browned turkey breast on toasted bread with mashed potatoes and gravy. Good thing we were planning on sharing! the plate was piled as high as could fit. A massive helping and it was good. They have a real good pulled pork sandwich too. Besides their really good hamburgers. this is a well known biker stop along that route, and the people there treat bikers right. The scenic setting there is incredible. I got some pictures on a disposable camera...if I can get them from 35mm to digital will post them when I get them. Hope people in the area get an opportunity to do this ride before the weather turns cold and icy. Bring warm gear even now. Ride Safe

Default Pictures of Hwy 88 trip last May

I found some pictures of the trip we took up there last May. There was quite a bit of snow at the higher elevations, and we got rained on too. Still was an incredible trip as going up there always is.
