Motorcycle Insurance DiscussionThis is the place to discuss what type of Motorcycle Insurance you carry or any problems or good experiences you've had with certain companies.
How about if you're active military? I'm fully covered with military medicine. If I were in an accident -after fixing me up - they would do a line-of-duty investigation. Worst that would happen is if there were any untoward shenanigans (riding without a helmet, excessive speed, stunting, etc), I wouldn't be entitled to disability benefits, possibly non-judicial punishment if it was due to a serious fugg-up on my part (DUI especially).
Medical Insurance and cycle insurance do not cover the same things. First off, most of my cycle insurance customers do not buy no fault or Under/Uninsured coverage due to cost. That can be a bad decision if you are involved in a one vehicle crash or you are the at fault driver, or the other guy has no coverage to pay you. Medical insurance may pay a hospital bill but it will not compensate you for a lost limb, eyesight, disfigurement or loss of income. My advise would be to at least carry U/U limits of $100,000.
I will not solicit business on this forum. Anyone who has questions on coverage email me and I will do what I can to help.
One thing is certain, you can save money in lots of places...insurance is not one of them. It will never hurt to be over protected when it comes to a motorcycle accident.
Well, that whole story thoroughly scared me shitless. I think I'm going to take your advice and max out my coverage just in case. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc.

+100 on the UM/UIM! I'm an agent in Indiana and this is the one coverage I preach about. Also remember that if you are hit by an uninsured driver your uninsured motorist will only pay out based on the coverage you have for yourself. So carry the coverage you would want someone else to have if you were collecting on there coverage. IE...if you do not carry comp/collision on your bike do not think they will fix it if you are hit by an uninsured motorist.
As for med pay...it does not save you that much to exclude it. It's generally less than $100 per year. In the event of an accident you'd rather be over insured than underinsured.
I'm Acitve Duty Navy, and getting ready to retire in a few months. Like UNCLE FESTER I'm covered for my medical treatment by DOD, whether Active or Retired. Do I or SHOULD I still get MEDICAL coverage for the bike? I'm a brand new rider / owner - as of April 2010 - and have noticed how CRAZY the rates are for me. I realize experience and time will diminish the sticker shock of the insurance, but just starting out I'd like to keep both arms and legs insted of having to give them up to insurance companies.

Well - this may sound harsh but frankly as a brand new rider . . . I just hear too many horror stories that involve new riders. Load up on the insurance. Not to tempt fate or anything after 36 years of riding (first 3 in the dirt, next 33 on the street) - heaven knows it can happen to any one of us I carry a 1M life policy - for instance.
found out after a bike accident.that my ealth insu wouldnt pay my dr bills.they said it was the vehical insu co deal to pay.bike insu wouldnt pay anything till i settled
