Quick question, found that when I removed the right outer fairing screw that it also pulled the dow out. Apparently the previous owner tightened the screw to tight. Is this something that i can fix or have to take to Harley or body shop? Thanks I also used this write up to install the biketronics amp and Orion Cobalt speakers. Thanks

I think about all the HD shop would/could do is glue it back in. That is a knurled brass fitting pressed in place and when they pull out...there is not a lot you can do save glue them back in. You might could heat it up with a propane torch and stick it in and let it cool before moving it. Of course....not red hot...you get the point. I think a good epoxy should work as long as you don't fill the dowel up with the stuff and have to re-tap it. I'd try the epoxy first. I don't know if something like JB Weld will actually stick to plastic, but it doesn't have too. All it needs to do is create some friction points for the brass knurls to grip.

One more possible fix would be to stick the dowel back in and cross-drill a small hole through the plastic extension and the brass dowel and pin it back in. Might have to shorten that particular screw when you put it back together, but I think that would also work.

Thanks alot. I was thinking of using just Gorilla Glue and letting it set up for a few hours or even a day then rebolt everything back up. Didnt think that there was much they could do with it. Terrible set up should of use the metal dowels like the lowers. I will give it a try. Thanks again for all the info.

If your talking about the brass inserts that the bolts thread into, HD has replacement inserts that self thread into the plastic. PN 16585-96 I believe. The end with the slot goes in first to cut the threads into the plastic.

I used one for my center windshield mount and it works great.
