I got a letter like this saying my 2006 street bob was excluded from the list , well i had to do the bearing job last summer the factory paid !

i have a 06 fxdci that the IPB went out at 12,000 miles, making so much noise was afraid to ride out of town to local dealer, went to a local shop that has been working on HD bikes for 20+ years asked him to take a look thought it might be the chain tensioner....nope it was the IPB.i called the dealership they told me that they have not heard of any IPB problems but would be glad to take a look at it for a fee of course since my warrenty was out.i told the local shop to go ahead and fix since they had it apart anyway plus the labor is cheaper.found the IPB info on this forum decided to call HD .HD said have not heard of many problems on the IPB asked for my serial # guess my build number is in the date range just before the sent those care program letters out saying that the IPB are ok now,never got any letter on anything.so the lady tells me for them to concider fixing it i had to take it to a HD dealership,even then no promises to pay for repair.even if i took to a certified tech it would still have to go to a dealer.i told her of this info i found that if the IPB goes completely then the rear wheel locks up and i am toast.so i get the sorry nothing we can do now that someone else has worked on it.i get a ticket number of my call thats all.432.00 dollars later its all fixed now. i am going to send HD the trashed bearing and the bill....will see what happens.all these bearings should have been recalled and fixed...i only hope no one gets hurt .

Not heard of many problems, my a$$!! Sounds like you may be past help ($$$-wise) at this point. Anyone else reading this, call HD Cust.Svc. before you have the dealer do any work. Ask them to honor the terms of the pink letter; it's an admission of an '06 IPB problem.

Well it's been maybe 2000 miles and I think my IPB is starting to make some noise again! Noticed today at a stoplight that the inner primary makes maoe noise when I put it in neutral and let out the clutch. It's silent when I put it in gear and drop it in 1st.

Sheesh! And you got the Full Monty "fix" last time, didn't you? I'll be interested to hear what they propose doing next.

I really am at a loss. First I have to ride it some more to make sure I'm not hearing things. Second.....dunno if I should call HD or ride it all summer or trade it in. If it's really going bad again, I have no confidence they will ever fix it. And there is no reason why I should bring the bike in now just to have it sit for weeks during riding season. Maybe I can get HD to give me a great deal on a new Road King. I just dont know what to do......

I would sit down and write a letter to HD Headquarters explaining you and your service managers experience with this "so called' Service Tech. I would be respectful, but firm in your disappointment in what transpired. It's stuff like this that causes people to turn away from Harley's to other mfgs. If you cant have "TRUST" in Harley, why would you want your next motorcycle purchase to be a Harley. Just my 2 cents
