I had a friend that did the same thing within 3 years too.
All I know is that he went through a lot of tires, 2 to 3 sets per year.

 

Be happy to pass on info about work needed for the first 100K miles. First, I need to let you know my Ultra is 100% stock, except for a few comfort items. I knew the miles I would put on so I left it stock so I would not get any hassle from the dealer when it came to have warranty work done. So far I have not had a problem in any of the work that has been needed. So far no "Motor" work needed. I did buy a 5 year extended warranty and so far it has saved me a few bucks over and above what I paid for the extra 5 year warranty.

No work was needed before 50K miles and at that time I had a Inner Primary Seal go out in the primary. Then the next work needed was at 80K miles: Needed a new Clutch Disk Kit, clutch just wore out. Front engine mount, Shift Shaft Seal and Clutch Cable Assy, it was leaking fluid. All work was covered under ESP.

At almost 81,000K had new Chain Tensioner Primary and Secondary. Oil filter showed a couple small pieces of plastic. When tech tore into it, the Primary just started to show a little wear. The Secondary look like new, but they replaced anyway. The pieces that broke off was about the size of the sharp end of a sewing pin. But, big enough to destroy the oil pump, so they had to replace that also. This was also covered under the ESP.

At 83,500K replaced Stator, started leaking around the stator plug. Also replaced the Inner Primary Main shaft Bearing. ESP covered all work.

At 90K the Transmission Compensator Assy went south and needed to be replaced. Covered under ESP.

This last trip (Oct 2009) the inner primary seal started leaking again in Texas. A few days later in Scott, LA the Primary Drive Chain and Compensator Rotor Assembly needed to be replaced at about 96K miles. The first time the primary seal was replaced the Tech put a nice nick in the bore surface and tried to cover it up with putting sealing compound around the seal and scratch. Not sure if this is what made it start leaking again after 40K miles or not. Time will tell and the dealer is on notice if this seal goes bad again in a few 1000's miles. The dealer that did the repair DID NOT use any sealer around the seal or scratch.

Just remembered have had the Y-pipe replaced 3 times so far, just keep cracking. Seems like they last maybe 20-25K miles.

I ride a lot of long distance, which means the bike might be running for 24-48 hours non-stop, except for fuel stops. I don't ride it hard but I do ride it! Hell, I still have the OEM brake pads on it. I do have a 3 year service contract with my dealer, unlimited miles. I have the Ultra service every 5,000 miles. They allow me to have bike serviced at any dealer if I'm 100 miles from home. They do allow me to have oil changed every 2500 miles also, I run Syn3 in all holes.

I run Dunlop's only because all the dealers carry them. I found that not all dealers carry the other brands that are available. I have Tires-For-Life that covers the cost of new tires and labor.

Not sure how long before I might need motor work....if I listen to the service writers and techs my bike should not be running and most are surprised at the miles when I needed work done.
