Default stage 1 "not needed"?????

hey everyone! the check engine light went on last wk after I took my bike out of the house (I put her in because some storms were headed our way). Turns out the wrenchers assistant at HD didn't plug in one of the o2 sensors all the way in..

well anyway I found out that they didn't do the stage 1 download like they said they were going to...the wrencher said that it didn't need it...

now I wouldn't know if it did or didn't...so I come to you guys...Do I need it? Is he trying to save himself the trouble of doin the work? IDK. Please help me here guys...

What did you do to the bike that makes you think you need a stage 1 down load? If changing the AC and switching the exhaust to a free flowing system then yes you need a stage 1 down load. What year and make of bike?

oops sorry the dealer threw in a set of pipes (my choice) so I chose the V&H 2-1 comp series, in addition the HD also threw in lowering shocks, a new seat, filter change and suppo-sed stage 1 (found out they did not do) only found out 2 weeks after install that it was not done...

I ride a 2009 VRSCAW there's a clip of the bike with the pipes installed under my signature pic...

Did they charge you for a Stage 1 download?

no charge...I was just promised the download because they initially said I needed it only to find out about 2 weeks later that it wasn't done because it wasn't needed...my concern is why didn't they tell me that it wasn't done in the first place...I found out from the wrenchers assistant...are they hiding something??? I don't know it could of been the opposite they could have insisted that it WAS done and I still wouldn't know the difference...that's why I come to you guys...pls help...

I'd give it back to them and go buy a honda or something.
You didn't pay for it. If the bike is running OK don't worry about it.

Usually with just a pipe upgrade you don't need to remap.

The problem with the dealer doing it is the bike still has to meet EPA exhaust and sound regulations so the difference is minimal. An indy tunes the bike for optimum performance - they do not have to adhere to regulations and the adjustments would require a download.
