Default new cams versus 103/cams

I've been thinking of goiing with the 103 KIT. The dealer has it on sale this winter for $1650 installed. After reading these posts, it looks like I'll also have to install the compression releases... so more money.

As an alternative, I'm thinking I could just put new cams in and forgo the 103 upgrade. I'm not unhappy with the performance I have now... I do a lot of 2-up riding, so a little extra torque and hp would be nice. Don't know if I'd get that much or not... can you help? Also, what kind of cams would you suggest to give me good power up to 4500 rpm.

My ride: 07 Ultra, SERT, SE A/C, SE II slipons.

You can listen to all the internet experts, but I'm very happy with my SE 103" Stage 2 kit. Of course there are other options, but this works well for what I want. I also did the ACRs, high torque starter, and SE compensator.

If I had wanted more I sure wouldn't have stopped at 103" or 107".

I did the 103 on my 07 roadglide with SE258 cams rhinehardt 2-1 and SE ac didn't have what I thought it should I then went to Hot Shots for a 117 that works great. If I had it to do over I would have had the heads ported and a SE 257 or 258 cam on the 96 and saved a lot of money and time. One other thought buy the SE super tuner it works great and you pay once don't have the stealer do a one time program

Default My 2 cents

OK stock 96"----Dynoed at 64HP and 78 torque.

Looked at several aftermarket options finally settled on this.....and I got a 180 warranty from my dealer.

Went with a Screaming Eagle 103" stage 4 Pro Race kit, 103" pistons and jugs, SE 260 cams, race clutch, High flow 110 heads with 2.120 valves and automatic compression releases, 10.5:1 forged pistons, new 58mm Billet throttle body, SE Pro Race Tuner, and High flow intake. Sent heads and jugs to Diamond heads for some bling!!

Installed by my Harley shop....Cost for winter project $4500.00 with the diamond heads, 4K without.

After some fine tuning, Dynoed at 114HP and 108 torque.....But most important it runs awesome! From around 3 grand to 7 it just pulls like a monster, and one added bonus, with the bigger TB and injectors combined with the cams, it has a lope to it like the old carb models....if I had it to do over again I WOULD definitely do it again. And one last topper I have put 7000 miles on it this summer and not a single hiccup. This set up is awesome and ya others may say use these parts...A+C+X+G= more time to mess with tuning, because they weren't designed together, now the stage 4 kit comes with everything and is designed together. Just my thoughts.....John

I wouldn't see any reason to ditch the current cam setup for a gear drive. Save your cash and just stick with the chain. Also S&S makes a nice 106" kit.

You picked a great cam. Save your money on the gear driven set up though. Use your stock heads and have them worked by Big Boyz, GMR, or one of the other top shops. Use your stock cylinders and bore to 107". Keep your compression in the 10 to 1 area with a ccp of around 190. You will have a great running motor that will pound out the TQ from idle to 6K.
